Ordered both the deck and shelf for my R12 cart not knowing exactly how they were made and how durable they would be after originally trying to make a shelf myself for the cart (but with no success). The shelf is thick and strong (and with a good support bar underneath as well). It gives you a small amount of options as far as the length of the cart by using the small/large/or both pieces together. The wood seems strong and is covered on the top by carpet (and painted black on the bottom, although there are already quite a few chips on the bottom side revealing the untreated wood and I am hoping the carpet stays in tact for a reasonable amount of time). The way it mounts is by having a u-bolt go around the hole in the handle and a bolt going though it and then screwed into place. This makes it a very strong and durable attachment, although in my case, takes to long and is to much trouble to attach and de-attach anytime the shelf is needed so I went to a hardware store and purchased clips/pins to use instead so the shelf just snaps into place and is much fast/easier in my opinion (although I admit it does make the shelf not attach as securely and possibly not be able to hold as much weight). Other than it being wood which may decay over time, I don't have any problems with it and think its a great investment.
