  • Rock House DVD w/ Rob Arnold of Chimaira

As reviewed by Frank on 6/3/2008

I bought this dvd because I'm big fan of Chimaira and was interested to learn from Rob. In the this dvd Rob shows you a couple of his favorite riffs, he goes over technique, his warm-up exercises, and his set-up including effects. He goes over solos from Worthless, Black Heart, and Empire. He also shows you the the lead and rhythm melody of Six. You also learn an entire song written by Rob. I really enjoyed this dvd and would reccomend it to any guitarist that is a fan Chimaira or metal music. But be prepared, many of the licks and techniques shown are fairly intermediate to advanced in difficulty.

  • Good DVD but a little pricey.

Be prepared to tune to CGCFAD. I had trouble tuning my floyd rose guitar to C so i used a different guitar with a normal bridge. Some of the teachings are a bit fast so you are going to have to rewind A LOT! Shows a lot of good stuff i would definitely buy if you want to learn a lot of cool metal riffs and techniques.

  • Was Alright

Not quite what I expected. I was hoping for some help in writing music, but Rob just shows you some riffs and solos that hes written and shows you how to play them. He goes into the scale he usually uses, but not deeply. He doesn't go into how he puts things together, his explanation for how he writes is, " I sing it in my head and transfer it to the guitar, and then write it out. And that takes years of experience." The Backing tracks are nice, and it is fun to play some of the more simple riffs with beginner friends because they are easy to learn. But other than that it didn't help much.
