• Very disappointing

  I was initially very excited to get this DVD. I'm a funk drummer, specifically in the style of Parliament. I figured video instruction by P-Funk's arguably best drummer would be perfect for me. It might have been, had the DVD been anything useful at all. The DVD insert booklet contains 10 VERY simple funk and hip-hop beats. They are oddly notated and the booklet itself is obviously made with very poor production quality (there is a misspelling in a song name and the "common drum terms" section is very poorly edited). After being rather disappointed by the booklet, I convinced myself the DVD would make it all worth it. I was wrong. The DVD is simply video of Jerome playing the beats notated in the booklet. The beats are broken down nicely, showing the addition of each new element to the beat, but most of these are so simple that anyone aside from a complete beginner drummer would not need video instruction. A couple of the beats played on the DVD do not even match up with what is notated in the booklet. The video sessions are narrated by some guy...Jerome Brailey does almost nothing but play the beats. The guy counts off as Jerome plays too, he doesn't even use a metronome, which is terrible for someone who would need video examples to learn beats as simple as these. Overall, the DVD looks like it was made in about 10 minutes. There is nothing at all useful to even a moderately skilled funk/hip-hop drummer. I will never use this product and am very disappointed that one of funk's best drummers gave his approval for something so lacking and amateur.
