Comments about Roche Thomas Trombone Slide Cream:
When I was a young trombonist growing up in the 60's, most serious trombone players used Ponds Cold Cream on their slides. It worked great, and you could buy a hugh jar for 69 cents. Unfortunately, a few years later Ponds changed the formula and it didn't work as well. Roche-Thomas(RT)got the old Ponds formula and began selling it as slide lube. So, is it as good as the Slide-O-Mix (SOM) type of lube? It depends. Slides with tight tolerances prefer SOM. I personally prefer RT on looser slides. It is cheaper. It doesn't leave crystalized green residue, and is better in hot weather. SOM gets watery a few months after you buy it. RT stays in good shape for years. Buy a jar. It works well, Trombotine and Super Slick are the other good slide creams. Yamaha Slide Oil is a good SOM type lube also.
