Measure your bass first

My son needed a case for his short-scale bass, which is basically a copy of a Fender Precision with a shorter neck. While out of town, I ran into a GC to check out their cases, and the salesman showed me this Road Runner molded case. Even though my son's current bass has a short scale, I decided to buy this as a case that he could use now, as well as later, when his arms are long enough to handle a full-scale bass. Unfortunately, I didn't have his bass when I went to check cases out, but I figured a universal case would still work out. Once I got the case home, I found that the area supporting the neck did not allow enough room between the headstock and the top horn for the case to work with this short-scale bass (it did fit an Epiphone short-scale bass in the store). Just for grins, I decided to see how well it would work for my Fender Jazz (full-scale) bass. This time, the case did not have enough room for the body of the bass to fit. I thought this was more than a bit odd, because there is nothing unique about a Fender Jazz bass, and if there were only two basses in the world this case would fit, it should be the Fender Jazz and Precision (I don't mean to slam the non-Fender players, but these two set the standards as far as size and fit are concerned). The case itself seemed to be fine, as far as features and construction. It's your basic molded case with padding and felt lining to protect your ax. There are two small storage area straddling the neck support; these are big enough for picks and a tuner, but probably a bit snug for cables or extra strings. If it would have fit my son's needs, I would have kept it, but it was the wrong shape for the bass in question.

An all around amazing case

This is a great case. I purchased it because of the fact that it is certified to travel on all major airlines. I bought this case at the store, thinking that it was an electric guitar case, not a bass case but it still works like a charm with my guitar because of the fact that it doesnt sit in it without any support around the neck area, but it is supported by a piece that covers the whole neck to hold it in place. This feature put this case at the top of my list over a coffin case. It has survived many drops with no damage to the exterior of the case at all. It has a lot of room in the inside of the case which can be used to store a tuner or something like that in it. This is an amazing case.
