About Rigotti Cane

The Best Cane
Ets
Rigotti owes part of their reputation to their material. The canes of the Var and those of Cogolin are among the best in the world. Grown alongside rivers and streams, Rigotti Reeds represent a large area that is maintained all year round.Cutting
The cane is cut during a winter over four months from December to March. When the cane has reached maturity (after two years when it measures seven to eight meters tall with a diameter of 26cm to 32cm), it is cut and left in the open where it will be worked on. The work on the reeds is split into stages. Rigotti only keeps the 2 or 3 meters from the base (the rest is either burned or used as bamboo). They then cut (from the base to the top) the tubes and throw away the knots to obtain tubes suited to music. This is where the true work starts. Each tube is calibrated to a particular instrument.

Great Reeds

By Rik Spector

from Bayville,nj

Comments about Rigotti Gold Clarinet Reeds:

I got a suggestion from Tom Ridenour, Ridenour Clarinet Products, to try these reeds. They are terrific. The cane is exceptional and the wide range of hardnesses make it easy to pick the perfect reed for your taste. They produce an excellent sound quality without being over bright or too edgy. Worth a try.

Just What the Doctor Ordered

By Steven Samuel

from Yardley, PA

Comments about Rigotti Gold Clarinet Reeds:

I played in bands and wind ensembles in high school, college and through medical school, but didn't have time during my career. As I started playing again in retirement, a teacher/friend suggested that I try Rigotti reeds. I chose the 3.5 Strong. I wanted to get more of a chamber or orchestral sound, and get away from the brighter "band" tone, and these sure did the trick. A rich, dark, "woody" reed compared to the usual "standards" on the market. Fuller and more focused low register; more ease and less pinched tone on high notes. More consistent strength and quality out of the box than others. I am glad I tried them--These will be my new "go-to" reed.

Amazing

By ElBlufer

from Moorpark, CA

Comments about Rigotti Gold Clarinet Reeds:

I have been trying different reeds for the past 2 years, always attempting to find something better and finding each brand slightly lacking. These reeds are phenomenal and deserve a try by any clarinetist. Go ahead, try a box, I doubt that you'll be disappointed.

Good Reeds

By Eduardo

from CA

Comments about Rigotti Gold Clarinet Reeds:

These reeds are good, but they have nothing on the traditional Vandoren reeds. These just lack the color and timbre that is needed to attain a rich clarinet tone. A few out of the box were good, but they weren't very many, only about 2 or 3 as I recall. Spend a few bucks more get the Vandoren reeds, I ordered a box just recently and got 5 good reeds, 2 bad ones, and 3 usable candidates.

one good out of ten

By Karl

from Shermans Dale, PA

Comments about Rigotti Gold Clarinet Reeds:

Having just played through a box of ten of these, it was a nightmare. The first reed played beautifully. The next nine were the opposite of free-blowing. Every note was a struggle, even though these were the strength I always play. I even went back to the Mitchell Lurie reed I use to see if something was wrong with me, but it played wonderfully as ever. I've played clarinet for almost forty years and am quite good. Everyone's embouchure is different, so maybe these reeds will suit you, but they didn't me. My soprano sax Rigotti reeds are fine. My theory is that these Rigotti clarinet reeds don't vibrate like other reeds because they're so much longer. I cut the bottom quarter-inch off the "second best" reed and it got a little more playable. I have new appreciation for Mitchell Lurie's. When I play those I get five or more really good ones in a box of ten.

Best Reeds I've Found So Far

By nonobaddog

from Lafayette, IN

Comments about Rigotti Gold Clarinet Reeds:

Unlike any others, I have no luck with Vandoren products, and Ricos are of course rather sub-par for more serious playing. Zondas were good at first, but demand forced quality to fall. Mitchell Luries are stuffy in the low register. For a long time, I was reduced to buying multiple boxes of Vandorens and spending hours looking for the one good reed. The first box of these, on the other hand, had only one unplayable reed in it. I love them! They hold up very well, too. Tone can vary a bit, but hey, I do marching band, so I know what to do with the brighter ones. Definitely give these a shot! (Side note: 2.5 light is about a Vandoren 2.5; 2.5 medium is almost a Vandoren 3)

Amazing Reeds

By Richard Larson

from Jacksonville

Comments about Rigotti Gold Clarinet Reeds:

Very similar to the Vandoren traditional, except a higher percentage of usable reeds per box. For even better results (with any reed), try aging them: lay them flat in direct sunlight for a few weeks or longer. Minor adjustments with reed rush and you will have amazing reeds.

Great Reed

By DOC

from Jacksonville FL

Comments about Rigotti Gold Clarinet Reeds:

Much like the traditional VanDoren, except more usable reeds per box, about 80%. Helpful tip: "Cure" your reeds in direct sunlight, the longer the better.

Great cane - pretty good reeds

By KenL

from PA

Comments about Rigotti Gold Clarinet Reeds:

Players with strong negative reviews probably don't know that reeds and mouthpieces need to work together. These reeds are very good for most well made mouthpieces. I make my own reeds and minor touchup on these reeds make them the best for my setup, and save me time making reeds from scratch.
