Comments about Rico Graftonite Clarinet Mouthpiece:

I have several mouthpieces. They are definitely a step up from the mouthpieces that most students start with and that come with the instruments. I would think that many students should get a better mouthpiece after only a few months of playing. For a school band player or a casual player the Rico Graftonite is really all they will ever need, but if possible I think it is good to experiment with different facings etc. Most serious players will eventually want to move up, but I have known people in college that still use the Ricos. They are definitely a step up from the standard beginners pieces and most students will sound better on one after just a week or two. You might want to go down one strength in reed for a couple of weeks, or you can soak a reed and then put it on a flat piece of glass and thin it down a little. The sax mouthpieces are pretty good too. I'm not claiming to be an expert and I have not tried that many other clarinet mouthpieces but just relating my personal experience.

I have an A7 which came with a clarinet I bought second hand. It gives me a full sound and an easy response. I'm happy with it

Comments about Rico Graftonite Clarinet Mouthpiece:

I still have an entry level clarinet but purchased a replacement mouthpiece (oops! I meant three) as suggested by everybody it seems. This one is my favorite. It makes a world of difference that I could detect immediately. Better high and low end. I did change reeds when I started experimenting with mouthpieces and
use a Vandy 2.5 exclusively now and when I started. Better tone and less squeaks. I selected the A5. The A is for the large chamber which I suspect gives it the better air flow I'm experiencing. The 5 is for a medium facing. That was suggested online somewhere and it works. Be sure to get the Rico 'H' ligature also for a tailored set up. I like Rico products and this one does not disappoint.
