Comments about Remo Silentstroke Bass Drumhead:

Combining these Silentstroke (SS) heads with the Zildjian L80 low volume cymbals, I can now practice almost any time I want. My practice space is in a pole barn, a separate building about 100 feet away from our house, with no sound proofing, so even playing with rubber pads on the heads and the kick drum stuffed with blankets and towels on top pf the cymbals, was still somewhat too loud (and still distributing my wife in her home office). I don't have to worry about that any more with these heads. The only negative (I don't really consider this as a negative though) is that these heads have a "bouncy" feel when compared to regular plastic heads. If you've ever played the Roland V-Drums with the mesh heads, it's just like that.

Another use for these heads that Remo has not stated is they can be used as resonate heads to give a your acoustic drums a double-head appearance, with a single-head sound, especially for kick drum as the single headed kick has somewhat come back in vogue in recent years.

A couple of things to note: I still put on Remo's falam-slam patch on the kick drum for durability purposes, it really didn't change the sound that much; it's still quiet. And I put a small pillow in the kick, up against the head, so as to diminish the head's aforementioned bouncy feel. Also, when you hit the rims it will still be loud and when your sticks hit each other that will still be loud too.

I'd recommend both the L80s and SS heads so you can practice with out disturbing.your neighbors or the people in your own dwelling.

Thanks for reading!

These heads work really good. Not exact feel but really close. Paired with Zildjian Low Volume cymbals I am able to practice in a apartment. Great heads for practice set without worrying about being to loud.

Comments about Remo Silentstroke Bass Drumhead:

I've played around with electronic kits, mute pads, practice stands, but nothing ever felt right. I played these at the local store and was overly impressed. Paired with Zildjian L80 low volume cymbals I can now practice and hear myself play on drums that still feel like they have standard heads on them. I can play with music in the background or my buddy on guitar low volume to work on things, and yet not annoy my girlfriend who is right below me downstairs. I wouldn't say use these at 1am but for the afternoon drummer or apartment living musicians these are perfect.

Comments about Remo Silentstroke Bass Drumhead:

I wish they would make a 2 ply version but they are probably limited because they make the remo version and the price point is not were most people would want it to be. I wish they were a little less now they are almost as much as regular heads. The sound is masked enough but I live in a town house were the walls are thin and the top floors boom so I have to mask the percussive sound just a little more. The feel is a little too bouncy just like the roland version. I have read other reviews which helped me not to do certain things--like not using a felt beater--it will wear the head faster.
