I change heads, dampening, cymbals, sticks beaters etc etc etc depending on the music and situation and these things are great for a lot of studio and live situations from dampening a bass drump to making a nice wet sounding floor these are fun. People seem to have forgotten about these with all the $50 bass drum heads but I still use them for all kinds of stuff from cocktail kits live to 10in deep snares in the studio. Best of all they are cheap and reuseable.

Bigger is better

Seems to work better on bigger drums such as base and floor toms. Rack toms were way too muffled and choked out.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:

I am putting one on my snare and was wondering, do I put it on top other bottom of snare. ..I play in church and I just bought the Tama 14x8 steel snare. ..I have muffles on my toms and they have the sound I was looking for but just decided to put on snare.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:

I use these rings on my snare and kick drum. I have a 22x18 kick and I use one of these rings in the batter side. It flattens out the sound a bit and improves the "thump" of the drum. When playing in smaller or indoor venues I also have one I use on my snare. It takes a lot of the louder, higher end crack and overtones out of the snare, which makes it much easier to mic and mix when you have to control your volume. It also makes the snare sound fatter and thicker.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:

These will muffle all of your undertone rings. Period. Now, if you're a jazz or modern drummer, that's probably not the sound you're trying to find, but if you're trying to reproduce that dead-thump sound of the '80s and '90s, this is for you. My 16" floor tom's nickname is "Thumper." Love it. And, they're great on the kick drum too. If you don't need as much ring control, don't use as much as the foam - just snip it down. The smaller the drum, the less foam I use to tweek in that perfect sound. I use them on all my drums, including the snare, though the foam is very minimal. Some folks will argue that you need to let the drum ring and ring and resonate... All I want is that "duuunk" and nothing else.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:

I have to say these definitely do the job. The name says it all, with a heavy emphasis on muffle. There is no ring left, but the sound of the tom-toms in particular go low and deep. Our group plays in small clubs and so I do not need the loudness and I do like the tone these produce. However, if you need a big sound in a larger hall, these are not for your kit.

Comments about Remo Muff L Ring Control:

I've been using these on my Ludwig open-shells for thirty years. I had to replace one (older style) because the plastic tray had finally fallen apart. I have several slightly newer ones that don't look even close to needing replacement. Nice to use in small rooms. Pull the foam ring out when playing in large rooms or outside. With a piece of tape, a smaller portion of the muffl can be used to adjust the amount of ring.

I have an 8", 10", 12", 14", and 16" toms and i installed each one with the muffl ring! It's the best way to control the resonance of your toms. If you need less, just cut the foam and put whatever you need. A little double sided tape will keep it in place within the ring. If you want, use the whole foam ring for maximum dampening. I find that the smaller the tom, the less foam you need. It looks great and doesn't leave a mark unlike gels and you won't have to worry about losing them unlike those rings you put on top of the heads. Get these and have perfectly dampened sound every time!
