Overview

The Remo Djembe is key-tuned and fitted with a Skyn Deep head. These hand drums produce a satisfying range of sounds from high slaps to deep bass tones. The durable, lightweight Acousticon shell delivers excellent projection and is unaffected by weather conditions. A heavy-duty rubber bottom protects the shell from ground impact. The wide selection of cotton print fabric finishes provide great visuals.

Originally from West Africa, the djembe drum has spread around the world to become the hallmark instrument of the world-beat movement. Since at least 500 A.D., the djembe has been used in healing ceremonies, rites of passage, ancestor worship, warrior rituals, and social dancing. Find out how much your hands can say with this traditional drum. Remo's revolutionary materials provide great sound, durability, and looks.

          Tough enough for my toddler

          By JOHN DEWEES

          from Northern Arizona

Comments about Remo Mondo Designer Series Key-Tuned Djembe:

I got this for my 2 year old's birthday. He loves hitting things, so why not something made to be hit? The drum is essentially bomb proof. And if he does manage to tear the head, it won't be too difficult to replace. The ring that everyone talks about was a bit discouraging, having only played my goat-skin mahogany djembe, but a small piece of duct tape fixed that. An added bonus is the 100% recycled content in the shell. That meant something to me.

          Solid Construction - Great Tone

          By CHRISTOPH TRUEMPER

          from Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Comments about Remo Mondo Designer Series Key-Tuned Djembe:

I have only owned this drum (12") for three weeks or so but have already recorded several tracks on very different songs and I am very pleased with my purchase. My equipment has to withstand every day abuses and this drum seems like it will last a lifetime. The material resists water damage and scratching and is tough as nails. The hardware is solid. It is easy to tune but came from the factory sounding great. It is also beautiful to look at (I got the "Earth" version that is basically brown. The more colorful models were nice but pay attention to the wrap itself and make sure the coating they put over it is not cracking. To me the Earth version is a bit more durable. It is a wood fiber composite which almost has a fuzzy feel and it seems like it could get dragged across the pavement and suffer any damage. Very organic feeling yet tough. The head is soft to the touch but also seems very durable. Most importantly, the tone is amazing. It has rich deep lows when you hit the center with your palm and lively highs from slapping the edge. It is extremely versatile. You can simulate brushes on a snare by brushing your palm across the top of the head. You can let loose with fast tribal rhythms and slow it down for a jazzy beat that simulates bass and snare. It seems like I could find a way to utilize it in the forefront or background of any style of music, and, to either add some richness to the overall rhythm or to be right out in the spotlight as the main rhythm player. You can play softly and subtly or blow everyone else out of the room. The big deep lows are fantastic, you just need to tilt it to open up the bottom for the tone to escape if you have it sitting on the floor. Or you can buy a stand that lifts it completely off the ground for the full tone. Well constructed, versatile tones, and a true instrument with playability and musicality. Love this drum. It inspires me to play and seems like it will for years to come.

Comments about Remo Mondo Designer Series Key-Tuned Djembe:

I just purchased a Remo Djembe Earth 14/25. I love it. However it is not a traditional dru djembe for it is made out of siynthetic materials and plastic. A real Djembe is Hand crafted by those that have a real attachment to its origins. On a positive note, A remo Djembe is worth the money and is quite durable with deep bass and high slap. I love it and would give it a4/5.

          SOLID!

          By Franklin Klock

          from PA

Comments about Remo Mondo Designer Series Key-Tuned Djembe:

Though not a true djembe, this drum is the perfect combination of traditional style and modern materials and technology. Add to that, a fantastic sound range and the convenience of key tuning, and you have got yourself one hell of a drum! I must admit I like the fiberskyn 3 heads A LOT better than the nuskyn heads. They feel more like natural skin heads, and have a more traditional look and sound. For someone who travels a lot with their drum, this thing is bombproof.
