I have these heads installed on a Ludwig L8024 kit, and they sound great. They do indeed look different from your average head. I have one installed on my snare batter side, and have them on batter and resonant sides on all three toms, and am very pleased with the tone. I like a deep old-time jazzy tone on my toms, and these produce that sound for me. With virtually no over ring, very little muffling is required, and what little I do use is supplied by light felt strips under the batter sides.

See my previous post. These heads still sound good, but after only a few weeks I noticed that the skyn coating was wrinkled. Taking it off the drum, it was obvious that the coating had begun to delaminate from the substrate film. So far no adverse affect to the sounds, but at some point they there will enough air between the substrate and coating it will need to be replaced, and I would guess that will come far sooner than it would for a regular coated head. Very disappointed. I won't buy them again.

Amazing Look, Feel & Sound... But Not Loud

Comments about Remo FiberSkyn Ambassador Batter Head:

I play a Ludwig Zepp Centennial Kit and wanted to give it some personality so i loaded my whole kit with Remo Fiberskyn heads. I tuned the heads low and it took about 4 full practice sessions for the heads to stretch and settle into their own. I gotta say that these Fiberskyn heads sound amazing, the tone is fat and low and really lends some amazing look and feel to my kit. But when practicing with the rest of the band, we play Loud heavily distorted alt rock, the toms and kick just couldn't cut through the mix. BUT they sound amazing on our recordings! So its a toss up, these provide killer tone but don't cut through loud guitars and bass live, however look great on stage. So i would say if your kit is going to be mic'd at shows or with the band USE THESE HEADS, or for recording. But unless your playing jazz or something more quiet, stay away.

I use this head on an Yamaha aluminum snare with a control ring, tight tensioning and a piece or two of moon jel to get a really nice crisp sound. Best snare head I've ever heard. Bet it would sound great on a wood snare too.

              Didn't care for it

Comments about Remo FiberSkyn Ambassador Batter Head:

I recently did a build using an undrilled, unmilled maple shell that I got for cheap. As this was for jazz, I thought I'd give the Fiberskyn a try. The head looks killer. I really wanted to like this head, but I just could never get the drum to sound the way I wanted it to. Hitting anywhere but dead center produced excessive ring. Hitting in the center, the sound is "thin" without much depth or body. The head sound FANTASTIC with brushes, but for anything else from sticks, or rim shots to rim clicks, I prefer the Evans G1. This is personal preference. The people who like the Fiberskyn are not "wrong," but if you really like the sound of a G1 on a snare drum, you probably won't like the Fiberskyn.

Comments about Remo FiberSkyn Ambassador Batter Head:

I got a FiberSkyn PS3 bass drum head to use on the resonant side of a Ludwig BreakBeats kit, then found that Ludwig has sized the bass drum hoops such that a head designed for a bass drum won't fit (go figure). I was after a vintage look (using the kit with a jazz ensemble), and was surprised at how much better I like the sound that than of a pre-muffled head like the PS 3. To sweeten the deal the 16" floor tom head is half the cost of the PS3. If you've got a BreakBeats and you want a vintage look and sound, check it out.

I use these heads for the snare drum because they are good for brush work and naturally don't ring like conventional heads. They sound fantastic. If you have not tried the fiberskyn line on your snare, give it a shot. You be surprise.

I have a 62 Slingerland 9 piece Kit. A Birthday gift received from my father pasted. This last year I pulled it out of storage And reworked every nut and bolt. So I looked around at heads to put on it I want something that sounded RIGHT and looked like it belonged. I looked at a lot of heads. After a couple weeks of looking called Musician Friend Talked the Rep. Price Best ever,

They will give that "Just Right" 60's, a R&b, Jazzy sort that is mello without compare Sticks or Brushes. Attack...I Have a Gretsch 4 piece kit for that. Evens Onyx on it "Oh" I bought them here too.
