I find most people use this head for their snares, but use them on my hi tom and floor tom and let me tell you it has the perfect depth that you wont find with any other heads without using "mufflers".I definitley recomend this to any hard hitter whos looking for low tones, instead of the muffled boxy sound!...suerte!

I bought this head on a whim and against my better judgement because I have not used Remo on a consistent basis in many years. After experimenting with Evans and most recently Aquarian, I feel as though Remo is just not up to par with their competition. This head is no different. I needed a durable head b/c I play very hard and a guy at the store recommended this head. Is it durable? Yes. But nothing else about it stands out. Most notably it's very sluggish. By that I mean it doesn't respond to tight tuning like an Aquarian Hi-Energy or even an Evans Power Center. It also has nasty overtones. I haven't had to use any form of dampening on a snare head in a long time - until now. This head needs a moongel or an overtone ring to sound good, which I don't care for. Overall, its okay, but there are much better heads out there. So unless it comes in a pre-package deal, try something else.

Love the sound of this head. The coated head really aids in reducing overtones. Fast shipment, quick delivery.

My #1 Snare Batter Head

Cons

  • Coating Does Wear Off

Comments about Remo Emperor X Coated Batter:

This head is my #1 choice for a snare batter head. This is why.
1. Lasts a long time
2. Easy to tune
3. 2 ply + dot for longevity and sound self dampening

I have been using these heads for about 3 years now and I have not found another head that comes close to this one in quality, sound, or longevity.
I have personally never broken one. I change mine when the coating wears off where my sticks hit. This happens once every 3-4 months and that's gigging 4-8X a month.

Comments about Remo Emperor X Coated Batter:

This drum head is pretty good. It has good sound, although I had trouble tuning it at first. When I first put it on my snare, it sounded too low but it sounds better now. The thing that legitimately bothers me about the head is that I tuned it pretty tight but I can't bounce my drumsticks very well. I can't t buzz rolls easily. I heard this head is just meant for durability

    Not for me.

    By Matthew

Comments about Remo Emperor X Coated Batter:

I have two very major issues with this head. The reverse dot area deadens rebound significantly. Play outside the dot and play inside the dot area and you will see what I mean. Also, this head for reasons I cant solve gives my snare a nasty decay that is too long on the resonant side. I put my standard emperor snare head back on and both issues went away.

Comments about Remo Emperor X Coated Batter:

i pick up these head for my tama imperialstar 14 x 5.5 snare and sounds very good, very durable.... a bit hard to tune but for me sounds good on ''93.5'' (drum dial) everybody should tune this on 93.5 to get a killer snare sound

Comments about Remo Emperor X Coated Batter:

I have a DW 6.5 x 14 brass snare. I was experimenting with heads, trying to get that "poppy crack" and meaty punch out of it for a powerful rock snare sound in a miked up situation, no muffling, without too much of that brassy "ring". This head was PERFECT. I tried a CSX, coated emperor, coated X14, Evans G2...nothing worked as well as the Emperor X. It just has that thicker sound and feel to it but still allows the drum to pop and open up with just the right amout of resonance. I'm not sure it would be great for all shell material types, especiall some wooden snares, but if you have a metal drum with some robust ring (think brass), bite and tone (in a good way), this head tames it down somewhat, but allows the volume and coolness of the shell sound to pop through. Awesome head for my situation, and it's durable as heck.

Comments about Remo Emperor X Coated Batter:

I have used the same heads as snare batters that Im sure most people have used. The coated ambs, genera dry (which is my other fav) but this emperor x is just top notch. VERY thick and durable head that seems to deepen the snare crack and help get that fat overall snare tone. I partnered this head with an amb hazy and finally found my snare tone. Immediately I switched nearly all of my snares over to emperor x. Its remo you really cant go wrong and if you know how to properly tune a snare then this will be the icing on the cake. This will not make a really bad snare sound amazing but it will make a good snare sound even better in my opinion. Also seems like it will last a good deal of time. One of the thickest heads I have used on my snare. Check these out if you are in the market for a new snare batter. If these are good enough for dave grohl and taylor hawkins then its most certainly good enough for me!
