Introduced in 1968, CONTROLLED SOUND heads are single-ply Ambassador-weight heads with a 5 mil thick black or clear dot in the center of the head. This combination offers a controlled, centered sound without undesirable overtones.
These dual-zone heads have a combination of medium and heavy-duty drumhead characteristics. The outer area of the head's playing surface offers a midrange tone and sensitivity while the laminated center dot eliminates high frequency overtones and adds durability and tonal focus to meet the demands of heavier hitters.

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Coated Clear Dot Bottom Dot Snare Batter:
I feal people don't write enough reviews for products on here, if you have the chance share the experience, you're probably going to help someone get the right product. Anyway, single ply heads on a snare are the perfect sound I want, but they don't hold up...a few dents and your sound is dead. I looked into these for extra durability and that's what I got. It's a great sounding head with punch and focus if you hit in the middle, and the edges are lound and ringy for an alternative sound/rimshot. It has a great punch, crack and "omph" that I've come to love with single ply heads. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is even after just a few sitdowns, the coating is comming off. This is the same coating on the powerstroke heads, and it's different than the ambassadors or emperor's...it doesn't hold up as well. But overall, I know it will last and it's a good buy for the money!!! It's the way to a good snare sound.
