Overview

Introduced in 1968, Controlled Sound heads are single-ply Ambassador-weight heads with a 5-mil thick black dot in the center of the head. This combination offers a controlled, centered sound without undesirable overtones.

These dual-zone heads have a combination of medium and heavy-duty drum head characteristics. The outer area of the head's playing surface offers a midrange tone and sensitivity while the laminated center dot eliminates high frequency overtones and adds durability and tonal focus to meet the demands of heavier hitters.

All around great head

By Crimson King

from La Mesa, California

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Black Dot Batter Head:

I've seen this head used by many professional artists and decided to give these ones a try. I was no-less impressed. The dot really gives the sound a feeling of central control (get it?). This head is especcially great for tom batters and is even good for pipe band tenor drumming and my tenor friends in our local pipe band hold these particular Remo heads with high esteem.

Not bad for price

By Tim Vosler

from Midlothian, va

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Black Dot Batter Head:

Bought this product based on the remo name and other reviews I read. It sounds okay and delivers as promised, not quite the pitch I had hoped for, but definitely worth the cost.

Sound Dot Heads

By Buffy The Drum Head Slayer

from Osage, IA

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Black Dot Batter Head:

This is obviously a quality and well-known head made by Remo. It sounds great on my 14" snare, however sounded like rubbish on my 16" floor tom. I wouldn't recommended for use on toms.

Rockin' God's House w/Remo CS!

By Virgil Bowler

from Hamlet,NC

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Black Dot Batter Head:

I'm a drummer who likes a full but controlled sound, one that resonates but not too long.I play at a church where there's a plexiglass shield on the drum riser(front and sides,no top or back)I have had the CS clear heads on the rack toms(8",10",12",13")for about 4 months, with single-ply ebony resonant heads. And the drums are miked. In the 80's I loved the sound and feel of the silver dot clear Ludwig Rocker heads, and these are pretty much the equivalent. To me they have a rich resonance similar to an ambassador, while the center dot controls over ring and gives more focus and articulation. We play fast & lively to slow & soulful and I am thoroughly enjoying these heads!I would recommend them to any drummer who wants a certain amount of resonance with focus and durability. Now considering these heads for the 16"and 20"floor toms!

Uhh?

By DrUmMaa310

from Chelsea, Massachusetts

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Black Dot Batter Head:

I bought this for my toms and they sound okay. Not the pitch I hoped for. But also there's a ring from the toms. I don't know if its the heads or my bottom head. But its not something I hoped for much. I like it though. And its good for practice. I haven't dented mine, just some smudges though/ but overall. Good but can use some improvment
