Overview

Remo Controlled Sound dual-zone heads have a combination of medium and heavy-duty drumhead characteristics. The outer area of the head's playing surface offers a midrange tone and sensitivity while the laminated center dot eliminates high frequency overtones and adds durability and tonal focus to meet the demands of heavier hitters.

Introduced in 1968, Controlled Sound heads are single-ply Ambassador-weight heads with a 5 mil thick black or clear dot in the center of the head. This combination offers a controlled, centered sound without undesirable overtones.

I've seen this head used by many professional artists and decided to give these ones a try. I was no-less impressed. The dot really gives the sound a feeling of central control (get it?). This head is especcially great for tom batters and is even good for pipe band tenor drumming and my tenor friends in our local pipe band hold these particular Remo heads with high esteem.

I LOVE the sound of these heads. The only problem is they dent really easy. After a month of playing on them I have a lot of dents in the "dot". I use 5A's. My powerstroke 3 holds up really well.

My son has played the drums since he was 10. He is 15 and likes to hit them harder than required.
      The Remo holds up well.

I bought this for a 6" Tama Concert Tom, and its perfect for that application. Has an open sound, not muted, with a little ring. It sounds equivalent to an Evans EC1.

Can't beat the classic look on a vintage kit either!

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Batter Head:

I've played these heads off and on for the last 25 years. I just recently purchased them for my toms, I also put clear Ambassador heads on the resonant side of the toms and tuned those a little higher than the batter side. The drums have a warm tone with the attack when you need it, a perfect combo!

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Batter Head:

I'm a drummer who likes a full but controlled sound, one that resonates but not too long.I play at a church where there's a plexiglass shield on the drum riser(front and sides,no top or back)I have had the CS clear heads on the rack toms(8",10",12",13")for about 4 months, with single-ply ebony resonant heads. And the drums are miked. In the 80's I loved the sound and feel of the silver dot clear Ludwig Rocker heads, and these are pretty much the equivalent. To me they have a rich resonance similar to an ambassador, while the center dot controls over ring and gives more focus and articulation. We play fast & lively to slow & soulful and I am thoroughly enjoying these heads!I would recommend them to any drummer who wants a certain amount of resonance with focus and durability. Now considering these heads for the 16"and 20"floor toms!

Comments about Remo Controlled Sound Batter Head:

I have tried about 15 different snare heads and the CS black dot is the best for what I play. It cuts thru when you need it and is mellow depending on the song/application. I use it on a Tama Rockstar 6 1/2 x 14 metal cheapo snare and the CS head makes it sound great. Looks are nice but good sound is more important.
