I got this snare head in a Remo pinstripe pack which I mistakenly thought was coated, but just clear and crappy. All in all, this head doesn't sound too bad, but you have to dampen it and work with it a fair amount. The real problem I had with this head was its durability, this is not for a Powerstroke, it's not even for a medium stroke. Unless you're playing jazz or something where you're tapping this head, it's a goner. I played on this head for 3 months on generally not even a weekly basis and by the end of this term, I was VERY close to busting right through it. All in all, barely decent sound, not durable NOT ALL, I would definitly NOT recommend buying this head.

Comments about Remo Coated Powerstroke 3 Batter Head:

I recently restored a 1954 Ludwig drum set. It included a 13" mounted and 15" floor tom. Because there were no internal mufflers and calf skin heads would have come standard, I thought I would give Remo a shot and try this drum head. The obvious Remo choices would have been FiberSkyn, Skyntone, Renaissance, Vintage, etc. In my 40+ years playing, I've used just about every "vintage" style head made by Remo and their competitors. I surprisingly like the focused overtone control this head offers while still being a single ply coated head. I use this kit primarily for big band swing and Dixieland jazz combos gigs. I don't always use Remo and this head was not my usual choice to mount on vintage drums. But I have been very pleased and feel no need to change out to something else any time soon.

          Best snare head (for me)

          By Curtis Sumter

Comments about Remo Coated Powerstroke 3 Batter Head:

Personally, I love this snare head. I have a metal snare and I normally get a lot of overtones from it with most drumheads, but not the Powerstroke 3. I know some drummers prefer have some overtones, but I grew up loving the clean sound of an orchestra snare where, when playing really quiet parts, all you really hear is the buzz of the snares. If that's the kind of sound that you like, then this is the snarehead to get.

At the price these are set there is fantastic value. They wear very well and have the right amound of timbale' ring to make the snare really cut through a dense mix without overtaking anything.

              Floor Tom

Comments about Remo Coated Powerstroke 3 Batter Head:

I needed a head that would reduce the ring produced by the drum. This fit the bill. It doesn't deaden/choke the sound. It allows just enough ring to sound great. Powerstrokes are awesome. I usually used them for my kick drum. Now I have them on my Floor Tom, Kick Drum and My Steel Snare.

              Outstanding head for small kicks

Comments about Remo Coated Powerstroke 3 Batter Head:

I use this on a 16"x12" kick drum with no resonant head (or rather, a cut-down head) and the sound is great - deep, slightly boomy, and with just enough ring. I was having problems with my 16x16 floor tom competing with the kick before, and I just didn't care for the kick's lack of depth, but this head solved both problems. I get plenty of attack even with a wool beater. Highly recommended.

              .
Alright bought this head a few months ago for a 14 inch walnut stave snare that I built (awesome snare).... and by a few I mean about 3. First thing I noticed was tuned tight it sounded very, almost too, dry/muffled. However, after I tuned it lower (83 on a drum dial) it sounded very good. The next thing that i noticed was bad aswell. The coating on this head (along with most other remos) wore off rather easily. Evans' coating is far supirior over remos. Lastly after only 3 months of playing, the head split right in the middle... with that being said I am a rather heavy hitter. The only snare head, other than this one, that i broke was a stock single ply head that came on the very first drumset I ever got, and that one lasted about a year and a half. This is the fourth head that I had on this snare, the first three were Evans Power center, Evans SD dry, and Remo Sound control. Out of those heads, heres a list of the best ones...
              1. SD dry
              2. SC dot
              3. powerstroke 3
              4. powercenter reverse dot
Overall this head was OK at the start, but after a while it really backfired. If your looking for a good head, go with the Evans SD dry, you wont be disappointed.
