I was going to wait a month or so before writing, but after six days, I am convinced that this has to be the best value in djembes. I got it to have as a "companion" to my 16" Remo djembe. I have it tuned so it sounds like a doumbek, but it sounds great when tuned lower, too. It sounds great either way. I played it in church where I keep my big drum. Its complemented the sound of my other drum beautifully. I took it to an open mic/jam session where it acquitted itself well. I can't imagine how one could damage this drum. At its pricepoint, you could have two of these; one tuned high and one low. GET ONE! NOW!

Advertised as 'ABS durable-plastic materials that are impact resistant'. I bought this drum for my brother. Poor choice. The first night the drum tipped over and broke in half. There is a seam between the bowl of the drum and the base. This is apparently a weak spot. We returned the drum the next day and got a TOCA Freestyle II. That fully synthetic drum sounds great and has no seam between the bowl and base. It is also a lighter drum. I have both Remo and Toca djembes with synthetic and goat skin heads, and I like the TOCA Freestyle II for my beginner brother. I wouldn't be intimidated by the rope tuning system. With a synthetic head, the weather and room humidity conditions have very little effect on the tuning of the drum. I would not recommend the Remo Advent to anyone. Had that drum broke 4 months down the road, we probably wouldn't have been able to return it so easily!

I love my new drum

By Nina Ward

from Houston, TX

Comments about Remo Advent Djembe:

The drum arrived promptly and packed well. THis is a fantastic drum for the money. Great to bring to drum circles as it is very light and portable. The sound is amazing. Very impressed with the bass. I originally wanted a roped Djembe for the more bass tones but am very happy with this purchase.

Excellent Value

By Steve Jounakos

from Waltham MA

Comments about Remo Advent Djembe:

I doubt you could find a better djembe at this price. It has a full range of tones with a nice full bottom fundamental tone. I prefer the look of this drum to many more expensive djembes. It is tuned with a small included wrench which seems to be a standard size. You could also use a small crescent wrench. You generally have to spend a lot more to get a key tuned djembe. The head is easily replaceable - but expensive. Unless you are accident prone, though, the head should not require replacement. The tone of this drum is a little less warm than a natural head but considering the price I have no complaints.

Big Sound

By JON STEEVES

from Willsboro, NY

Comments about Remo Advent Djembe:

Amazing sound from a small instrument. I bought the 10" and am totally amazed at the sound. It has great bass for such a small drum. It sound as good as my 14" wood roped tuned. Great tones, nice highs and lows. Don't hesitate to buy. Easy tuning also.

    Comments about Remo Advent Djembe:

Although this is not a full grown djembe, it does very well competing with the big boys. Very versatile for what it is. Easy to play. I had to back off due to its small size, but then it was really easy to produce sounds.

      Comments about Remo Advent Djembe:

It's a djembe when you need lows, and a doumbek when you need highs. I use this in acoustic, world groups and songs to save the hassle of carrying multiple drums. It is built solidly, and can deliver in volume. It plays great on it's own , and fits in as added percussion in a drum set.

          Comments about Remo Advent Djembe:

I needed a djembe/doumbek sound in my kit for some of the numbers we do.
I bought it because of its compact size, durability & price.
I didn't want to drill holes in expensive djembe to attach to my percussion rack. And I could barely squeeze it in @ 10".

I sounds fine not great and seems likes it's going to be durable.

I only play the drum with one hand and occasionally a mallet so the 10" head works if you are using this instrument as a primary the you might want to get a 12" or a 14" just for more real estate.
That said its a great little drum for the money. And you could buy 2 and tune one low and the other high for the price of a bigger djembe.

          Enjoy

          Remo Advent Djembe

          By Bert Felton

          from Oakland, CA

          Comments about Remo Advent Djembe:

This djembe has great sound. It low is not as low as my 14 inch model, but a great buy. I've been playing them together. It's light and much smaller which allows me to put it in the trunk of my Miata. And it was on sale. How can you beat that?
