I've been playing a couple nights a week at Remo's Music Center (N. Hwd) for about 5 years. After playing doumbek, congas, timbau, and djembe, this is becoming my favorite drum. The deep resonance of the open palm strike in the center of the NuSkin head is a bit of a cross between the djembe and floor toms, the high open sound is mostly woody, and the slap resembles a conga. Definitely evokes more of an African feel, and begs for polyrhythms. Primary con (for me) is an unwanted ringing of overtones on the largest heads. Will vary from drum to drum (and head tension), so hands-on is recommended. Maybe around half the weight of Remo's congas - which simplifies transport, but this floor-standing drum tends to 'walk' during playing. Can require a re-set during play.
