Overview

At the top of the line of the Regal Studio Series Resophonic Guitars, the RD-40 Resonator has been redesigned from the inside out making it one of the best values when it comes to truly vintage-inspired, professional featured, resophonic instruments. Using Regal's many years of experience in the development and construction of traditional American acoustic instruments, they discovered ways to improve upon the most legendary designs from the past without pricing them out of the reach of any level player. Only the finest materials are used to create these new designs that reminisce of the past, while still meeting the demands of today's modern players. The new body shape takes its cues from instruments of the past; while the real secret to the tone of these instruments lies within. It all starts with a combination of Regal exclusives, such as the Power Reflex Tone Chamber for added volume, the DP-126 die-cast spider for its bell-like response, and a US-made, hand-spun aluminum cone. All together work in perfect harmony to assure the maximum, most articulate tone that can be heard in any playing situation.

Comments about Regal RD-40 Resonator:

I see one person had a bad unit, I bought a RD-40M opened in mint shape.
This thing was exactly that mint shape not one scratch on it! Right out of the box the set up and action including the neck were bang on. Usually I have to set up my guitars shortly after purchase, not this one everything plays and sounds great! I am getting good sustain and a lively tone from my unit.
I think the one negative review was simply the case of a poorly QC ed or defective unit. For the most part these Regal RD-40 resonators are great acoustic resonator guitars.

    Comments about Regal RD-40 Resonator:

Regal RD-40 resonator guitars come in two flavors, round neck and square neck. I have one of the latter. The listing here is a bit confusing, because the headline says round neck but the description says square neck. The round neck seems to go for about $200 more, so this is probably a square neck version as in the description. What is the difference? The round necks can be played like a regular guitar. Square neck versions have much higher action; there's no way you can press the string to the fretboard! These are commonly played as a laptop, laid flat, as Ben Harper like to play slide, for example. That also lends itself to using a bar type slide, which is held between fingers rather than a regular bottle style that fits on one finger.

    Comments about Regal RD-40 Resonator:

First off, this is a inexpensive Dobro it has cheap tuners and spider- cone etc. but it sports good looks and more importantly a Good tone for the price range. Hey I've played my Martin D-45 at a back country Venue with people there playing anything from Martin D-28 to D-35 and various Gibson and Guilds to an assortment of Chinese, Korean, and you name it guitars Banjoes, fiddles and Mandolins. The thing that really counted was people were enjoying playing and listening to the music, that being said play whatever you can afford to play or want to play and be happy, I for one will take my Regal Dobro and play it anywhere as I say, to each his/her own !!!

This was backordered but arrived several weeks earlier than anticipated. Well packed, pulled it out, tuned it and started playing. Great tone, well built, love the mahogany finish. The sound is just super. I'm a guitar student and am not advanced enough to give a thorough in-depth technical review, however this beautiful little unit makes me mighty happy.

                Comments about Regal RD-40 Resonator:

Good price, beautiful, plays and sounds well. Good service at MC, they hooked me up with a Goldtone (brand) beard resonator sq neck case. (hard case) #545181 862 03 It fits a little snug around the case and cone, but it does the job well. I just got them both. Happy and learning

I bought this instrument for my 82-year-old brother who had cut off both thumbs and a finger at different times and while they had been reattached, don't work well anymore. He had played the guitar but can no longer do that. He is thrilled with the dobro and says it's so beautiful. I'm sure he's already playing it, as he had some experience on a steel guitar.
