Overview

Recording King's Dirty 30's Harmonella guitars are a throwback to the dry, throaty sounding department-store instruments that have become favorites of blues players and songwriters everywhere. The Harmonella Single O is the first of the Dirty 30's Series with tailpieces. Though they're based on vintage instruments, their tone benefits from some modern building techniques. Historically, tailpieces were used on guitars whose tops were reinforced using ladder bracing. These tops delivered a dry sound with very few overtones.

Harmonella models are built using traditional X-bracing on the solid spruce top, which, when paired with the tailpiece, delivers vibrant gutbucket blues sound with enhanced overtones. The original models were made with steel reinforced necks, but today's Harmonellas are built with traditional truss rods for easy neck adjustments.

The classic aesthetics of the Harmonella Single O are just as much a part of their appeal as their sound, and Harmonella guitars follow vintage tradition from the classic-style fretboard markers to the old-school bound soundhole and matte sunburst finish.

Whether you're a songwriter who wants vintage blues sound, or a first-time player who wants something a little cooler, get the benefits of modern construction while still delivering tons of vintage vibe with the Recording King Dirty 30's Harmonella Single O.

    Old-Timey Acoustic Fun

Comments about Recording King Dirty 30's Harmonella Single O Acoustic Guitar:

I had been thinking about picking up a parlor style acoustic to practice finger picking blues and maybe try out some alternate tunings. It's also just a nice low-priced acoustic to have on hand and the smaller size makes it comfortable to play when sitting on the couch or whatever. So when GC offered this at about 40% off at a time when I had some tax refund money coming I couldn't resist the deal. It arrived pretty quickly and well packaged. It gives me that parlor style sound I have been wanting to expiriment with and overall good quality, especially for the price. However, it does have some spots on the neck that are a little dead sounding. I also have an issue with the low E string sometimes comming out of its bridge slot when using my fingers or thumb (not been an issue with a flat pick). I went with the tailpiece floating bridge model so this is probably not a problem with a fixed bridge. In my case I may have to deepen the groove on the bridge to get the string to stay put. I was tempted to give this 5 stars given the price but since it has these flaws out of the box and I don't like to have to mess around with a new guitar to get it to play or sound better I will have to rate this an overall 4 out of 5 budget guitar.

    Buy it!

Comments about Recording King Dirty 30's Harmonella Single O Acoustic Guitar:

Are you kidding me? I had been looking for a parlor sized guitar for a few months and of course seen the Recording King Dirty 30's in my searches. I was always intrigued by the low price and the solid top on these guitars. I saw that Guitar Center had them on sale so I went ahead and ordered one and I'm so glad I did. Of course it doesn't have the deep bottom bass of my Martin dreadnought but I wasn't expecting it to. What I was hoping for was a old time bluesy sound and for that this one exceeded my expectations. It's been a blast to play and I haven't really picked up any of my other guitars since I purchased this one. I've tried playing chords, power chords, finger picking and slide but for me it really shines in the single note blues scales over your typical blues 12 bar progression. TON of fun to play, sounds awesome and I highly recommend it. Good job Recording King!
