Comments about Randall RD100H Diavlo 100W Tube Guitar Head:

I picked this up used about 6 months ago, and so far i've been pretty happy.
At first i was underwhelmed, using my esp M-350 with a duncan full shred tuned to E standard.
drive was meh... felt kind of hollow. but then i plugged in my ibanez halberd, and shecter 7 string, both with blackouts, tuned to drob Bb, and WOW!!! palm muted chugs make everything in my studio shake, and my brain rattle...

One note, set the gain lower than you think it should be. too many people crank it up to max initially, and then complain about it being muddy, or lacking definition. I started with everything at 12 o'clock, and spent a couple days tweaking, before i was completely happy... also make sure to adjust it at your "normal" playing volume, as the tone will change dramatically when you turn up or down... that is the nature of tubes after all...

All in all, this thing rips. similar to any peavey, until it's dialed in correctly, it may sound like crud.

Comments about Randall RD100H Diavlo 100W Tube Guitar Head:

I have played heavy metal guitar for over 15 years and wanted a half stack to compliment my 6505+. After reading reviews and listening to demonstrations online I felt confident in ordering the Randall Diavlo RD100H with 4x12 cab. It offers three channels with independent volume and gain plus master EQ and volume. Comes with a solidly built footswitch with channel color coded LED's. Great tube sound: cleans are very clean with low noise floor and the high gain screams out as much distortion as you can handle. Only con is no spring reverb but it has an effects loop. Great performance, quality build and a great price. Your neighbors will love it.

Comments about Randall RD100H Diavlo 100W Tube Guitar Head:

Grabbed an rd100 on the used market and am loving how great it sounds. I've heard some folks mention how the rd45 lacks a bit of low end, I haven't tried the rd45 myself, but that is very much not the case with the rd100. I'm guessing the gain 2 channel makes all the difference in that department. This amp also has an excellent clean channel, which coupled with the crushing distortion makes me plug it in over my 50w evh and 6505+ for most applications. Lets be honest, neither have great clean channels, but the rd100 sure does. As fate would have it, I actually got the evh and the rd100 within a week of each other expecting the evh to easily best the Diavlo from all the reviews I had read. However, I was blown away with the rd100 instead. Mike Fortin and Randall knocked it out of the park with this one.

Nice amp, nice sounds, almost rated it a 5

Comments about Randall RD100H Diavlo 100W Tube Guitar Head:

I sold my Mesa because it was too noisy on the gain channel. I was referred to Randall by a "friend of a friend" and have to say I am pleasantly surprised with this head. I run it into a 1960 lead cabinet and really like it's versatility. Much less noise than the Mesa and tons of headroom (the master volume allows for monster crunch at lower volumes). If it had reverb, I would have rated it a 5. Guess I'll just have to buy a reverb pedal in the near future. The effects loops works perfectly. This amp also has a BOOST switch. It doesn't seem to give it much of a boost, but I honestly haven't played with it enough to say I've thoroughly run it through it's paces. I haven't had it long, so I can't vouch for durability yet either, but the thing is built like a tank. I LEAVE it at our practice area because at 56 LB. carrying it back and forth is not the option I choose. Definitely some bang for your buck!

        Great Metal/Hard Rock Head

        By FRANKLIN

        from KC, MO

Comments about Randall RD100H Diavlo 100W Tube Guitar Head:

I wanted a purpose built high gain head with good tone and value, didn't care for the largely stocked amps at the store. Spent a lot of research time before ordering this head, but it's hard to make a real decision without first hand interaction. The local GC didn't stock it, so I took a chance and ordered it in. I'm very glad I did. The Bottom line up front is that I find this to be a solid, great sounding head for heavy rock and metal tone. The Head is solidly built, has good aesthetics, and most importantly will happily rip you head off while leaving a smile on your face. I use this through a Krank Rev Cab and play though it with several guitars from a Gibson LP Standard to Modded Ibanez's and ESPs with Active EMGs. This head does a great job of maintaining it's voicing while allowing the character of each axe plugged in to add its flare of inflection. The clean channel does sound good in it's own right, but it's not an head you buy for superb cleans. With more volume and active/hot pickups, the clean will break-up, but if you know how to handle a volume knob you'll be good to go. If you're looking for an affordable solid built head to tear it up on, consider the Diavlo. Even without considering price point, it's fantastic.

Great deal for a great price!

Comments about Randall RD100H Diavlo 100W Tube Guitar Head:

Appearance: I like amps that you can see the tubes. This one has red LED's inside so the head glows a really cool red. I put a cover on mine when not in use. Features: 3 Channels (clean, Gain 1, Gain 2)Lots of headroom on clean channel....plenty bright so bright switch not needed on this amp. Gain 1.....somewhat like my old Marshall. Gain 2....reminds me of my Boss Metal Core pedal....I love the distortion sound on this channel, also good for leads....amp is a bit noisy cranked on Gain 2....not unlike many others but compared to my Mesa Boogie Tremoverb it is noticeable but not a deal breaker. I tend to like it extremely loud so it works for me. It has an XLR balanced output. FX loop works great....no knobs just plug and play....I have a Zach Wilde Phaser, DD-6 Delay and RV-5 going through mine....out front I also use CS-3, OCD, ML-2, M-108 eq and sn-7 tuner....again, works flawlessly. Footswitch....main reason I gave it a 4 was because the footswitch had one major fault, when you pressed down the Gain 2 button it automatically switch to the clean channel....emailed Randall and was sent a new one....and it works....so great job by Randall's customer service. I have my RD100 plugged into two cabs....Marshall Lead 1960 B 4x12 cab and a Marshall TSLC212 2x12 cab....sounds great to me....I've also plugged it into a Mesa Boogie Rectifier 4x12 cab....sounds even better but that cab is for the Mesa Tremoverb. With my Tremoverb it will handle an impedance mismatch so I can plug in my Marshall 16ohm 4x12 and my Mesa 8ohm 4x12....I don't think my Randall can so I haven't tried that. So far so good....I'm really enjoying this amp....and considering the price, it's tough to beat.

Comments about Randall RD100H Diavlo 100W Tube Guitar Head:

I been waiting on an inexpensive high gain head with a decent clean channel. Based on some reviews and sounds clips, I figured this was the way to go. I been playing for close to 20 years. I play Gibson guitars and K100 Celestion powered cabs.

I unboxed the amp set it to the proper ohms and let the amp sit idle for a moment to get the tubes warmed up. I flipped the power on and for about two minutes, the amp produced no sound at all. I checked connections and all was legit. After a couple of minutes, I got sound but at a lower volume than it should have been for 100 tube amp.
I tapped the channel switcher with my foot and it switched from clean to channel two without issue.
I switched it to channel three and that was a no go. It would automatically switch back to the clean channel on it's own. I then checked the channel switch on the front of the head and it moved in and out freely not clicking like it should have been.

The sound was okay and the boost was certainly aggressive. I just hope that others have a better experience than me. I had the Warhead before this and it gave so many issues it was unusable at a live show. I will only buy Randall cabs. No more amp heads. I won't be buying anymore off shore made amps either. I got what I paid for. I can't say to buy this because it was a brand new amp having these issues. I returned it and didn't want a replacement. If they aren't made any better than that, I don't need one.

Comments about Randall RD100H Diavlo 100W Tube Guitar Head:

I spent a lot of time checking different high gain heads out before making this purchase. The RD100 was the winner. I considered Mesa, Framus, Rivera, 5150, and Marshall. But the Fortin designed amps demoed on Youtube sounded the best. How do you get Fortin tone on a budget?... Randall. They have relaunched their whole line with Mike Fortin as their engineer. The result is blistering high gain, with quality build and attention to details like the clean channel and FX loop. The tube boost is very useable. You don't need a Maxon 808 or TS in front, and the loop was designed to take pedals and processors equally well. And it does. All three channels are voiced differently and work well together. I have owned several different high gain heads over the years and this one eats them all for breakfast. Hands down. My experience with MF was great too. I found the best deal and they matched it no problem. It shipped on time and arrived in great condition. Buy this now!!!!!!

Comments about Randall RD100H Diavlo 100W Tube Guitar Head:

Randall made right with the tubes! I've used Randall for over a decade now, constantly pleased with their Solid-state, high-gain, tight sounding amplifiers. This is a welcome addition to the family. Big and warm, but still tight and crunchy like a Randall. The added tube punch says it all. 4, 8, and 16ohm operation makes this fit nicely with your favorite cab. Round, clear cleans, but we all know this amp was designed to play loud, angry rock and metal. Can't wait to get a THRASHER!
