• A wonderful guitar

  First off, this isn't a professional's review! I'm not a very good guitarist - I'm not much better than I was 45 years ago when I bought my first guitar in high school. But I do know all the chords and people tell me they usually recognize the song by the tempo and pattern of strumming (since I seldom sing). So I play for fun and when I'm playing with others, just play rhythm. Since I never learned to pick, I've always drifted toward 12-strings for the fuller sound. I had a Yamaha for 40 years and replaced it with a Boulder Creek "Solitaire". Both sounded good and held up well, but I was always tuning them, and on the Yamaha, adjusting the neck and bridge. In 2004 I bought a Rain Song WS-1000 6-string. I got it mainly because I saw an ad where this guy was playing it on the South Pole. As I was in Iraq and Afghanistan pretty much all the time in those days, I figured if it would hold up to the cold, then it would hold up to the 120F temps over in that part of the world. It did, and it stayed as solid as a rock. I've played it in deserts and jungles and it sounds the same (to my amateur ear anyway). I was lucky enough to find folks over there who brought along their Ovations and Martins, and they liked the sound and solidity of the Rain Song too (at least they said they did). Frankly, I think my WS-1000 sounds like a big Martin dreadnought. So this year I had some money available and got the itch to get another 12-string and it was a choice between the Rain Song WS-3000 and the Martin D12-28. There is certainly nothing wrong with a D12-28, but I chose the Rain Song, even though it was more expensive. Mainly because of my positive experiences with my WS-1000. The WS-3000 is even fuller sounding of course - all those extra stings fill in the gaps and produce a very soothing, flowing sound. I like playing Pink Floyd unplugged and this guitar fills in the gaps even when you are playing alone. So, for my kind of playing it is perfect, and if it is anything like my WS-1000, it will stand up to all sorts of weather and I won't need to worry about dings and scratches either. I live in a different desert now but believe the WS-3000 will stand up alongside my WS-1000 for quality and sound, and will last me for the rest of my playing days. I predict it will sound as good the last day I set it down as it did when I first got it out of the box (BTW, it was still in tune from the factory!). If you've got the money and like 12-strings, get one of these. You'll be glad you did.

  I LOVE this guitar! I've been an active player/performer for 30+ years. My biggest complaint with 12 strings has always been keeping them in tune, and then there's the whole neck tension thing to contend with. Also, I'm lazy and am always forgetting to rehydrate my humidifiers and often leave my guitars out of their cases for days or weeks. The carbon fiber concept seemed like a perfect answer to these issues, and I have not been disappointed. The guitar plays like a dream, the action is terrific and consistent. The sound is beautiful, crisp and clear, surprisingly warm tone. Also, it's absolutely gorgeous, and feather light. This may sound like blasphemy to the purists out there, but...I like it so much, I'm planning to trade in my Taylor 614ce for a six string model, maybe I'll try the "Black Ice" series. I'm totally smitten with Rainsong. Did I mention I love this guitar??
