Guitar Player Editor's pick!

2-channel tube distortion pedal combines the natural warmth and harmonic generation of a 12AX7 tube with the control and saturation of Radial's unique multi-stage solid-state drive circuit. This combination provides incredible gain with tons of overtones and, when combined with their unique passive-interactive EQ, produces four generations of Marshall Plexi tones worthy of a Shakespearian Ode.

Designed to enhance onstage functionality, the Plexitube features two distinct distortion channels for on-the-fly transition between rhythm and lead settings. Channel-1 has been optimized for rhythm with chunk rhythm tones and scooped out mids for a thunderous wall-of-sound and complete world domination. Channel-2 is optimized to produce razor-sharp cut for solos and sustaining mids that are so smooth, they can make a grown man cry. This is augmented with an effects loop that can automatically turn your delay on for leads. No tap dancing!

When the Plexitube is off, true-bypass connectivity ensures the natural tone of your guitar goes directly to your amp without obstruction or a tone robbing load.

Plexitube Setup:
The Plexitube is your 'Plexi-in-a-box'! Just plug the Plexitube output into your amp to open up a world of tube driven British rock tones. The separate trim, drive, contour and EQ controls give you instant command of both rhythm and lead distortion settings as well as a true bypass mode that ensures that nothing gets in the way of your pure guitar-to-amp tone.

But that's just the beginning because you've also got a foot-switchable effects loop at your disposal that's there when you need it and out of your clean signal path when you don't.

You will be amazed at the breadth and scope of the sounds just waiting to be discovered in this truly versatile pedal!

Radial Engineering Tonebone Plexitube Distortion Pedal Features:

  • 12AX7 equipped tube distortion
Clean, rhythm and lead in one pedal
Insert loop on lead channel for effects
True bypass clean for natural tone
Huge chunky rhythm settings with scooped mids

  • If you are looking for Marshall tone you'll get it!

As reviewed by David Walker on 4/2/2009

I bought this pedal because I was looking for a good distorsion pedal and read a review in some guitar magazine that was very favorable. I also liked the list of guitarist that use Radial products, check them out I'm sure theirs someone you like that uses their stuff. I had a soild state Marshall that when using the dirty channel, just did'nt give me the tone that I needed. I was using this amp for just practice, because my other three amps are tube and are just too loud for practice. It's kinda funny a Marshall amp(soild state) could'nt get me a Marshall tone. This pedal gives me the marshall tone in this soild state amp and my tube amps also, at any volume level. I let a couple friends use it they said the same thing. It can give you that warm sizziling tone of a all tube Marshall. I lot of pedals that I've used before that said that they would give me tube tone just did'nt, go figure, the pedals I used before I found this one did'nt have a tube inside the pedal. This one have a 12xa7 tube, I think thats the key. I would highly recommend this pedal. Radial makes a aby switcher that I'm wanting to get next.

  • Great pedal.

As reviewed by E pluribus unum on 6/1/2009

This pedal can be a bit complicated at first. You have to do bit of tweaking to find a desired tone, but once you get the hang of it you can get all sorts of tones, i.e. megadeth, iron maiden, hendrix, SRV, zeppelin, GNR, ect.. and surprisingly it does them all very well. Unlike the Seymour Duncan twin tube mayhem, you can get a really tight bass out of this thing for those heavy metal riffs. It has more than enough distortion to please any metal head or it can give you that slight tube break up for that old school rich blues sound. It especially works well for anyone that owns a tube amp and would like to get that overdriven tube tone at low volumes. I never tried it with a solid state amp but im sure it would work just fine.

  • Should be called "Flexitube"

As reviewed by El Guitardo on 9/10/2010

Because it not only gets a great "Marshall plexi" tone, but it can easily get a JTM, JMP, JCM, DSL, JVM, or just about any other Marshall tube amp tone you can think of and not just that, but Fender and Vox tube tones are possible too... Very cool indeed! If you use a "solid state" amp but long for true "tube amp" bone, I believe this pedal will do it for you pal. I gave it 4 stars only, not because of quality or value, but because that sucker ain't cheap! Buy it at any Guitar Center in SoCal and your paying darn near 25 bucks just in tax alone! Man that certainly does suck! But the pedal does not...not by a long shot.
