Overview

The QSC TouchMix is designed for musicians and production professionals who need the power and capability of a large mixing console in a compact, affordable and easy to use format. TouchMix offers enough power and functionality to satisfy demanding professionals as well as a range of features and functions that help less experienced users achieve great results. A fantastic design, sure to be a popular piece of equipment.

Twelve dedicated XLR ins, four XLR and 1/4" hybrid inouts, and a pair of TRS 1/4" make for a very capable ionput scheme. It has stereo AUX outs as well in addition to its XLR main outs. Cue and moniter out, six XLR AUX outs. WiFi dongle, dual USB ports and a dedicated talkback channel. Four professional effects engines and even one channel of pitch correct, assignable to any input.

The TouchMix-16 provides the user a choice of Advanced Mode operation, which has total control over all parameters or Simple Mode, which provides only the most essential controls. For many practical engagements, Simple Mode is all you're likely to require. It offers everything you need and nothing you don't.

The QSC TouchMix Series represents a breakthrough in innovation and digital mixer design - the result of collaboration between QSC and industry icons Greg Mackie and Peter Watts. TouchMix resets the bar for performance and value and redefines the user experience for professionals and novices alike.

The TouchMix Control Android App for Android-based tablets and smart-phones is now available, as is its iOS predecessor. The Android app offers users comprehensive control of the TouchMix digital mixer, effectively replicating the on-mixer touch screen interface. The full compliment of features is available to tablet device users on both platforms. On Android smart-phones or Apple iPhone and iPod Touch devices, the TouchMix Control App operates as a compact, personal stage monitor AUX mixing solution.

Up to twelve external devices comprising any combination of Android or Apple iOS smart-phones or tablets may be connected at once to a TouchMix mixer. In multiple wireless device operation, the TouchMix operator may allow or restrict access to functions on a per-device basis from the mixer. TouchMix Control is a free downloadable App from Google.

Home Studio Rookie Musician

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

I've only been playing music for 5 years. We have a small home studio that friends come over and jam. I started recording about a year ago. First with an old Tascam 4 track Cassette (yeah seriously!). Then to a Zoom H6 (because I needed more inputs). Next was an older Tascam 16 channel USB mixer, that only had 6 Mic Preamps. Still needed more inputs. Tried a big name digital mixer with 16 Preamps + firewire. Loved it. But it was not reliable, it kept locking up. After reading lots of similar reviews.... back it went. I love my QSC K10's so much I was willing to try QSC's first mixer. PLENTY of inputs. Great live meters on every channel. Great Effects. Did I say super easy to use? Within minutes I was mixing and even recording! Very intuitive interface! I was a bit concerned about only seeing 8 channels on a screen. It's very quick to flip back to the other 8 channels.. or even better connect an iPad on the built in Wifi Router and put 1-8 on the iPad and 9-16 on the Touchmix. Beautiful!! Being a computer tech for a living, I understand that computers/phones/tablets/etc can all lock up at some point and need a reboot. But this is one device that needs to be stable. Since QSC built the OS with Linux, this is one stable digital mixer. Can't wait to see what new features QSC builds into the next version of the firmware. Running v 2.1 at the time of this review. I hope my review helps some of you home studio rookies pick a great product!

Excellent Compact Mixer!

By Madeline

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

Love the mixer every time I mix on a live band. Can believe, it make my speakers Jbl prx615m go louder in monitors enough stop the drummer complaints can hear the vocal. The graphic eq is very accurate not like other digital console. There's a digital trim on each channel along with the warmth analog trim make the band sound like playing in a concert. I am wishing for Qsc to make a 32 channels mixer with the same preamps. Great job Qsc, many thanks!!! Dragan & Jose from SJ Guitar Center always give great helps on recommending on new items.

Simply Awesome

By Jeffery

from North Platte, NE

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

Easily the best mixer I've ever owned and I'm still learning all that this board can do! It is so intuitive, with the manual info and 'sound wizard' at your fingertips, that you can't help but learn and get the best out of it rather quickly. I haven't had it long enough to experience any problems, though, at this point, its hard to imagine much going wrong. It will be money well spent if you decide on the TouchMix-16!

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

I bought this mixer and haven't regretted it. The only thing is that after about 4 months, it just didn't turn on. I didn't buy the service plan that Guitar Center offered, so had to send it in back to QSC. They turned around and fixed the issue pretty quick, so had it back within two weeks. Looks like the SD card was fried, from what the technician told me.

I haven't seen any bad reviews anywhere else, so I must be one who got the messed up unit. To be safe, I'd buy the service plan...that way if you have a gig or something and can't wait, you can get another one quickly.

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

I run sound for our five piece country-rock band. Over the years I have used various analog and digital mixers, mostly for playing in typical clubs and bars. The Touchmix is by far the best I have owned in terms of features and ease of use. I will admit that it took a bit of practice to get the workflow down since there are no physical faders. However, adjustments become very easy once you get used to using the jog wheel and touchscreen. After that, dialing in a great sound is easy. After about three gigs, one of our regular fans told me (at a gig) that our sound was the best he's heard.

There were some reported issues when this mixer was first released, but I didn't run into any of them. It has been rock steady with no problems. Recording is a no brainer, and wi-fi remote with an iPad is a breeze. I use a recording of the band to rough in the mix before sound check, then tweak it as needed once the lead singer finally shows up. (You hear me Bobby! LOL)

Buy this mixer, you won't regret it.

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

For context and purpose of use, I've been gigging on drums and guitar and recording most of my life. But priorities change, so now I'm content to just record drums and guitar for demos, in freestanding home studio. The gear options are mind boggling but I wanted to simplify things and finally bought the TM16 at local G.C. It is exactly what I needed and sounds better than another mixer I had tried. I love it~!
Having MP3 playback on a USB stick is sweet & recording with backing tracks straight to hard drive really helped to master using it. (along with QSC videos. I have mixed straight to hard drive or transfer files into Studio One. Mounted on a stand at my right hand, track tweaking and recording is fast and efficient. Mic pre headroom with drums was a concern but it has plenty. I've taken to the small touchscreen due to efficiency of use, but with 3.0 downloaded, my iPad mini serves as a very welcome larger second display. The effects, digital converters, and preamps are beyond what I expected. The faders are nice and linear and I don't miss physical faders as much as I had feared. The small wifi is fine remote control in the studio iPhone or iPad. But when we play occasional gigs we use a standalone wifi with no troubles. Saving scenes is a Godsend for recording and live.
Summary: The trim knobs feel good but pop off way too easy for rugged use. For very heavy live use I'd probably look to TM30. That said, I don't miss lugging a 24x4 mixer & racks of gear. For more modest and efficient studios, singer/songwriter/vocalists at 5.5 lbs. it brings plenty weight to the 'newbie to mid level recording' & light gigging table. Personally the gear question is always the same: "Would you buy it all over again?" For my particular needs and purpose I certainly would!

I was able to set up sound for a bluegrass band I was playing bass for 2 days after it arrived! It worked flawlessly! I was able to upgrade the sophisticated new version on my own without a problem - and had the new features available to me like anti-feedback wizard, RTA, etc. Loaded the apps on my phone and ipad, able to control everything via wireless connection, leaving the board off to the side of the stage area.

I'm a Mobile and Club DJ/Producer who enjoys playing on solid quality sound systems. This unit is nothing short of QSC's signature quality. I pair my TouchMix with a couple of KW153s and a pair of KW181 bottoms for which I will update this review after the tomorrow night's first live gig with this setup,. In my home DJ/studio setup, this unit performed outstanding. All I can say is "clean".

I hooked it up and immediately start using it and it sounded good... one reason we bought it is Old Pa had a static noise in it we couldn't get rid of and it had that hot mic Echo all the time no matter how we eq'd it. It's gone now.

Comments about QSC TouchMix-16 16-Channel Compact Digital Mixer:

After about a year, still continue to be impressed and feel lucky to have stumbled upon this mixer and had the sense to take the jump from what I was used too -- the big hardware based mixer. Much more power and quality than a big board in such a small package, it almost.. doesn't seem right... The touch screen is the thing. Change setups, drill down. Way more features and flexibility than big board. In a word, I'd call the design 'elegant'. Sound quality is **excellent**. The extra bonus of being able to record turns out to be a really nice feature, I use it A LOT, and from I get from the QSC, they seem to have put it in as a kinda, peripheral, add on feature. It has a couple limitations, can only playback on the mixer, the last recorded take. But bottom line it can record multiple takes simultaneously of all inputs onto separate files, including 2 track mix. Big jump over old hardware based mixers.

In this new world, with multiple setups that you can call up immediately, you do have to develop a memory for the specifics of what each setup exactly entails, or write it down. Did you have the main muted on X setup for some reason? Unique EQ setup for X instrument on this one you are forgetting about? Write it down.

One thing I don't think they got right (a cost issue, remote control trim pot are $$ ?) -- the trims and trim levels didn't make the jump to software. And the pots are pretty level sensitive and unfortunately they turn real easily, they can and do get easily get knocked out of position -- by an input cable or an accidental bump or turn. I use a tiny bit of orange colored duct tape to 'remember' levels, and be able to quickly see if the trim has got knocked out of place, and even this is not ideal. Hard to reliably get trim level back to where it was, given their sensitivity, which is not what you want on a mixer where otherwise every other variable can be nailed in place for a completely and utterly and reliably repeatable setup
