Building on the success of QSC's K Series, the 3-way KW153 active speaker, like the rest of the KW Series, represents QSC's next evolutionary step in wood enclosure loudspeakers. The system engineers created the KW Series to feature all the groundbreaking electronic attributes of the popular K Series loudspeakers while at the same time designing a speaker that is both smaller and significantly lighter than previous wood enclosure models.
Like it's K Series predecessors, the QSC KW153 features a QSC designed, 1000W (2 x 500) Class D power module. The powered speaker is also fitted with the identical high-output 1.75" HF device and 15" LF cone transducer of the same high-quality design, with the addition of a 6.5" cone transducer for the mid-frequency.
Defined Coverage Area
The QSC KW153 active speaker also comes with Directivity Matched Transition (DMT) technology which provides matched LF and HF coverage across the entire listening area, eliminating unnatural "dead" or "hot" frequency zones.
Extensive signal processing is employed throughout the QSC speaker, providing levels of sonic clarity and total output that defy all expectations for a speaker in this category:
•Intrinsic Correction: first featured in QSC's high-end line array products, it maps 65-75 spatially-averaged measurements to IIR and FIR filters that actively adjust time, frequency, and amplitude response to a maximally flat bandpass target. The result is a speaker that behaves equally well across the entire sound field
•DEEP and excursion limiting allow for extended low-frequency response by actively managing low-frequency transients without degradation of the underlying signal or adjacent frequencies
•GuardRail protection, first introduced on QSC's GX Series amplifiers protects both the amplifier module and your performance from unnatural and destructive clipping
The QSC KW153, like all the KW Series speakers, features a four-position mic / line gain switch that lets you connect to a wide variety of devices. Combo XLR and 1/4" TRS inputs accept both mic and line level input while a set of RCA phono inputs allow additional connectivity to portable MP3 players, CD players and line-level mixers. Up to three audio sources can be mixed internally and summed to a balanced output for daisy-chaining of multiple units. Separate direct outputs are also provided on each channel for additional output flexibility.
Onboard switches provide preset EQ settings. The HF setting can be set to VOCAL BOOST for additional presence in the critical mid-frequency area or FLAT for accurate reproduction of the incoming signal. The LF switch can be set to NORM, DEEP for additional bass extension, or EXT SUB for use with an external subwoofer. The loudspeaker's rear panel LED switch can be set to POWER, illuminating the front-mounted LED when the speaker is powered on, OFF for applications where it is not desirable to illuminate the front LED, or LIMIT which indicates to the system operator that the clip limiter circuit has been engaged during operation.
Remote gain control capability is offered via a potentiometer (not included) connected to the onboard Phoenix-Style connector. In an installed application, multiple QSC KW Series speakers can be daisy-chained for total gain control from a single remote pot. Auto-standby mode is engaged after 5 minutes of inactivity.
The QSC KW153 active speaker, like all its KW Series brethren, is designed to withstand the rigors of professional use. Advanced construction processes, premium-grade Baltic birch cabinetry, ergonomic, cast aluminum handles, and a highly protective steel grille provide for ease of transport and long-term durability. Integrated M10 suspension points allow for flown applications.

Great sounding speakers. I have four of them, but there are a few issues: 1. I had to return two of my cabs for repair, there is a known problem on earlier date codes. 2. The handles are located too close to the center of gravity, making them unnecessarily difficult to lift and carry. 3. The XLR input don't have latches! This is terrible, I have to tape them in to prevent the input XLR male plug from falling out due to vibration. I have replaced all the connectors on my cabs with latching XLR/TRS Combos (Amphinol ACJC6AV).
By far the loudest, most crisp quality sounding twin 12 combo speaker I have ever heard in my 18 years of DJ'ing or live music!!
I had 4 EV cabs and 2 EV Subs for years as a "Mobile Dj". Powered by 4 QSC amps in Road Box with the other electronics that weighed into the 250lb range. These have everything built in them. I purchased 2 of these KW153 and paired them with ONE KW181 sub and...WOW !!! The sound was completely amazing. I really didn't know that music could be so clear when you have play it so loud in clubs and bars. I doesn't distort at all. The Limit switches are a great feature. These speakers have cut my set up time in half. Way easier to carry. I know the price scares you, it did me too, but you won't be disappointed with these. Just one of these are great for some background music, but if you want get it bumping, it will surprise you. And if you pair it with a KW181 sub, your dancers will fill the bass in their chest.
WOW!!!! Unbelievable speakers. If your looking for the best powered speaker on the market, and the price doesn't scare you, go for these amazing speakers. I bought a pair of the 153 and the 18 sub, I have never heard anything so clean, so much punch, dispersion, incredible power. Can't wait to add my second pair. Special Thanks to Geoff at San Diego Guitar center for the education. Thanks man you and QSC are the Bomb!
These Are The Cleanest Sounding Speakers I Have Ever Heard. The Mids And Highs Are So Well Balanced No Matter How Much You Crank them.I Used Them For The First Time And I Could Not Believe The Low End I Was Getting Out Of Them And I Didn't Even Have Them On the DEEP Mode.No Matter where You Were In The Room The Bass Would Hit You Right In The Chest. I Kept Thinking I Had Them Cranked Too Much But The Limiter Did Not Engage Not Even Once. After The Gig I Felt The Amps And They Felt Like They Weren't Even Turned On, I Didn't Feel Not Even The Slightest Hint Of Heat On The Amp.
I just bought this speakers a couple weeks ago and have used them a few times. I can honestly say the sound great. i have heard alot of speaker before. the seem to be very well balanced thru out there range. in a small venue say 150 people you may not need subwoofers unless you plane on playing hip hop alot. i turn it up alot and the dont hurt your ears like other speakers that seem to have to much highs your ears feel like poping. i have had alot of mackie, jbl, and other brands come thru. some sound good but qsc kw153 really sound great and balanced. alot of people are amazed at how much quality low end the have. they play for 8 hours and just feel barely warm they dont brake a sweat at all. iv had djs come hook up to them and start playing music and turn around to see what type of speaker the are. then they turn it up and when the song has hits bass there eyes open wide amazed, suprised at how they dont distort. will very happy so far. they are going to be used two times a week so lets see how reliable they. we have blown alot speakers in the past well see how these hold up over time.
Pros: They sound fantastic, even at high levels it does not distort. Crisp, detailed and classy. It has a built in fan for the amp so you shouldnt experience any overheating issues. The deep mode really works, it sounds like you have a subwoofer. Lastly it is pole mountable, but sits very tall so it kinda looks akward. Cons: They are heavy and will require two people to load in and out. They dont project very far, the sound will stay concentrated on the dancefloor. Thats either good or bad depending on the gig. Overall they are the ultimate wedding speaker and Id mainly use them for small to medium venues.
I have owned the QSC k12 and KSUB for about a year, and the KW series just builds on that reliable performance and power. The KW153 delivers astounding sound in this small package. I use the term small because what I used to use was twice this size and had multiple pieces. With out a doubt these are the BEST powered cabinets on the market. You will NOT be disappointed!
