I'll start by saying I didn't buy this for my kid or grandkid like the rest of the reviews. I bought it as a kit to keep at my girlfriends house so that I can teach her and her roommate drums, and so that they can practice while I'm gone. I also am planning on keeping it my car for spur of the moment jam sessions that happen all over my town here in CO. Since the kit was so affordable and made from WOOD with decent bearing edges, I got it almost as a joke, just to see what I would get... So it comes in the mail and one minor thing was wrong, I ordered the black one with chrome hardware, mine came with black hardware. No big deal, it still looks fine. The hardware is not bad at all, Its all metal except for the throw on the snare. I knew right away I would need new heads for it, I've been wanting to try the Remo Fiberskyns (synthetic animal skin heads) so I bought an 8" and 10" for the batter and kept the resos stock. I had some 16 inch Evans heads for my Gretsch floor tom so I slapped those on the kick and put a small sweater in to get a little bit of a thud. The drums were surprisingly easy to tune with the stock heads and the Evans heads, the Fiberskyns were a B-word to tune though, but I finally got them there. Moving on to the included cymbals, they are bad, but not as bad as I was expecting. I put one of my 8" wuhan splash cymbals underneath one of the hats that came with this and it sounds much better, still not very good though. I am planning on getting a small, rack mount floor tom to attach to the cymbal stand. The kick pedal and hi hat stands are OK as far as movement goes, but they are noisy. All of that said, after replacing the heads, this kit sounds waaaay better than I thought it would. If you can tune drums, you can make this sound good without much effort or money.

We bought this for our 4 year old son for xmas (so he hasn't seen it yet). In a nutshell, the difference between this kit and the ones you get at toy stores is that this kit is "real" and the toy store kits are toys that can't even be tuned. Since they both cost about the same, this kit is absolutely the best choice.

One minor negative is that the cymbals in this kit are thin, stamped brass where pro cymbals are made of thicker, spun brass. It doesn't matter because if your kid gets the hang of it, you can always add other cymbals and drums later on. These cymbals will work fine for a beginner.

In a nutshell, do not buy a toy store drum kit if you have the chance to buy this one, because this one is leaps and bounds better. Buy this one and you won't regret it.

Comments about Pulse 3-Piece Deluxe Junior Drum Set:

I found a set of these on CL for really cheap and although I mostly do acoustic and low volume electric I thought it would be great to have a cheap drum set around. These, while small, are of a high enough quality and size for an adult to use for Americana, blues, folk, rock, country but wouldn't be good for a hard hitting punk or metal drummer. They are quiet enough to use for a coffee house or pub gig. It is true that the cymbals are barely usable but will do in a pinch. I don't use the snare because I have a late 50s Ludwig that sounds amazing. I also added a generic floor Tom. So far I've mostly used these for recording. I use a drum machine for the basic beat and embellish it with live drums so it sounds less mechanical. This set is perfect for that. Because of the lower volume these are very easy to record clearly. As far as for a young drummer goes these are a perfect beginner set. My wife and I run a preschool/daycare and teach the children the basics of music and these have been a great teaching tool. After several kids showed a strong interest their parents asked for recommendations on a set. I wholeheartedly recommend these without hesitation. The every day price is more than fair but when on sale even better. I paid little used but if I had known how good they are I would have bought a set new at full price and would have considered it a bargain.

I cant say much about this kit that already hasn't been said 100 times in the reviews. Its great for a kids first kit. After a quick setup/tuning, and kick drum dampening, I got this mini kit sounding better then I expected!

It's fraudulent advertising. The drum set looks great. So what? There's no instruction manual provided on how to assemble it. That's ridiculous. I called the company and they verified that no instruction manual is provided. They told me to look at a youtube video, not even made by this company?! The drum set has many different parts both small and large. Why would you not provide a basic instruction manual on how to assemble it? Fraudulent advertising because the fact that no assembly manual is provided is not indicated on the advertisement for it.

Bought this kit for my niece's son over the last holiday. Set it up and tuned it for him using a Tune-Bot tuner and went back after 7 months and the tuning was within range for most of the lugs. Although the cymbals aren't the best and the shells looked like they were two or three ply birch (or something similar,) this kit was perfect to determine if he wanted to go forward with this instrument. Turns out he's taken up piano, guitar, and other melodic instruments and will pass this onto his younger brother who's more of the drummer type. Ya know those drummers, they can be a tad unusual lol. I'm one of them.
