Comments about Protechtor Cases Elite Air Snare Drum Case:
The Gator Evolution Series Roto Molded Snare Case has thicker, sturdier molded plastic walls. It has a larger, more stable base for when you set it down on its side (flat base edge) as you're carrying it. It's quite noticeably less apt to get tipped over compared to the Protechtor.
Also, the Gator case is stackable. One case will fit and "lock" on top of another so the upper case will not slide off.
I got the Protechtor Elite Air Snare Drum case (6x14) for a Tama Starphonic 6 x 14 snare. I also got a Gator Evolution Series Roto Molded Snare Case, so I can compare the two. (I believe that Protechtor is owned by Gator.)
The Gator Evolution case has thicker walled plastic and so it naturally weighs more than the Protechtor. The Gator Evolution cases are stackable...meaning that they are molded to interlock when setting one case on top of another. The Protechtors do not interlock when stacking and so they will slide off each other.
But, there are two cons against the Gator case. One is that the handle is off center and more toward the bottom side of this case, so it does not carry like the Protechtor which has a centered handle. The Gator is like a small suitcase where the handle is closer to the bottom of the case than the top and so the case hangs at an angle from your hand.
The other con against the Gator case is that comes in the same size to fit 13" and 14" snares. It does not come in a 13" and a separate 14" size, the way the Protechtor does. Thus, the drum does not naturarally sit level in the case on the inside supports. This is not a problem with the Protechtor.
If Gator made separate cases for 13" and 14" snares and it fixed the off-center handle problem it would be the best hard case for snares out there.
I also place the larger case bottom upside down over my snare while it's on a snare stand when I'm not using it, to protect it. The Protechtor fits perfectly. The Gator, because it is not molded specifically for a 14" (or a 13") snare will shift around. Not good.
I opted to go with the Protechtor and I returned the Gator.
