I bought one of these for live use and to use in a studio setting. It does the live thing perfectly - just slap a sm58 on and you're good to go. Great quality, especially for the small price tag. For anything heavier than a 58, however, you had better look into something more heavy-duty. It takes quite a bit of maneuvering to get some of my lighter condenser mics to not tip this thing over. For live use, though, this stand can't be beat!

do not buy!

The tilter for the boom cannot be tightened enough to keep the boom from falling, even without a microphone attached! Awful!

Not even worth the measly 40!

By Sai

from Pittsburgh PA

I never even used this thing on a stage or any other critical application. I used it for about 5 months in my BEDROOM. It had one job: hold up my relatively light Blue Spark microphone. I hardly even used it a lot either. After 4 months, the boom joint (the thing with the rubber washers and bar that screws to hold the boom in place vertically) will tighten but no matter how much you tighten it, it WILL NOT hold the boom in place AT ALL. I took it apart a little bit to look at the components. The rubber used is hard and rigid and is slick and not vulcanized like a tire. That's the issue: the rubber washers have hardly any elasticity or grip. Imagine using something slightly more pliable than a vinyl record as a material for car tires. That's how absolutely idiotic this is.

At least it CAN stand.

By Ronnie Perez

from Miami, FL

I needed a mic stand, and to be honest, yes it has worked for me -- I've used this stand for like 2 years now, so obviously it works. But I also have a dent in my mic now thanks to this flimsy, wobbly stand. I have a medium weight microphone (ST51) and I've dropped it at least 10 times in the process of owning this stand, simply because the BOOM causes the weight to offset and it WILL fall. The only way I've managed to make the boom function without falling is by putting exercise weights at the bottom of it to keep it grounded. Today I was contemplating buying an sE Reflexion filter, so AUTOMATICALLY I told myself "I'm gonna need a new stand" because it's actually HEAVY. So I figured I'd drop a warning on here so people who actually want a competent stand will avoid this one. Of course it works. Of course it gets the job done. But would I recommend it? No.

Good if you are 12 years old and not performing out

By gerry thompson

CHeap, CHeap, Cheap. Just like the rest of the reviews. Stand gets the job done, but if you want a quality piece then upgrade to a DP PRO for $30-$40 MORE. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED. Otherwise, you will kick yourself later when this thing fails.

Works so far, but smells bad

By Zenman

from San Francisco, Ca

I just opened the box and the stand seems to be working just fine. But certain parts of it give off a bad smell. Note, I have a very sensitive nose and since none of the other reviews mention the smell it might not bother you. I've smelled this odor on other cheap products. It's like a combination of tar and gasoline. It's not as strong as I've smelled on other products so hopefully it will go away as the stand airs out, we'll see.

The Worst. Don't Buy

By Cannon Quinn

from st petersburg fl.

Total junk. This item should not be sold to unsuspecting patrons. This stand is not even suitable for occasional amateur use. The plastic height adjustment collar stripped out after 5 gigs. I have atlas stands that are still going strong after 20 years of constant service.

Defective out of the box

By Captain Obvious

from CA

Good Lord, why did I buy this one? Fresh out of the box (factory sealed) the screw that sets the boom slide in place would not tighten fully. Screw threads were misaligned so there is no way to keep the boom from sliding, and screw just falls off. I would expect this kind of thing after a few years of use on an inexpensive stand, not from the factory. Luckily GC customer service were very good about replacing it in a timely manner. Anyway, spend a couple extra bucks and get a better one.

By Sherri Flint

Used this stand about 25 times and now the boom doesn't stay put becuase it doesn't tighten down and the stand doesn't stay up because that doesn't tighten down anymore either.
