Create fresh new dimensions of sound with Cool Rods—a Pro-Mark original drumstick handmade in the USA from select birch dowels. Cool Rod sticks have a lively, natural rebound. Cool Rods were developed for drummers who want a lighter sound than conventional sticks, but more attack than brushes. Great for lower volume and acoustic gigs.
I used to play with Hot Rods, but the Cool Rods sound better and crisper to me. Just like a stick, but slightly quieter. Brings more guts out of the snare than a regular stick as well. Very clean though, and no muddled sound, do NOT try and make them yourself, or you will only get muddled sounds.
Bought my first pair of these a couple of years ago and am very happy with them. Originally got them so my practice would be a little quieter. Mission accomplished - sound volume was diminished. Then I really began to appreciate the texture they brought to playing, especially the cool sounds I could get from my cymbals. I don't do very well with brushes, but these are a great in between - they are the just right alternative for me between sticks n brushes. I tried the Vater Bamboo Splash but the individual dowels are much bigger and they have a heavier sound = plus they were harder to use even with my big hands, so I returned to the Cool Rods - try a pair, you might really like 'em.
