this pedal has a great sound to it at any level of distortion and is very versitle. you can easily dial in tones of a great punchy sounding guitar like david gilmours on animals or get a deep, rich distortion. no complaints in the sound department does exactly what I want. I did however encounter some wiring problems with the battery compartment but it was easily fixed. I highly recommend this distortion pedal over any other because of it's versitility and amazing sound

I picked up this pedal on the recommendation of a GC employee who said that since I love 80's hair bands, I'd love this pedal. My first impressions were good, but dialing in that Skid Row sound wasn't too easy. I had an easier time sounding like "I Remember You" on my Metal Zone. This pedal does high gain well, but it also has a lot of fuzz, which just makes it sound too sloppy. It was worth a shot and may be a great pedal for you. But it missed the mark for my board.

Solid distortion - Best at high volume

By Darwinist in Kansas

from Wichita, KS

Comments about Pro Co RAT2 Distortion Pedal:

This was my very first distortion pedal and I still keep it around. You can get some pretty smooth distortion out of 12 o'clock distortion and 12 o'clock volume with the filter at a little below 9 o'clock. The Pro Co Rat2 provides some really harsh distortion if you set it at 3 o'clock or higher but you need to have your amp at at least 6 to really get it goint well. The filter can be used to get some bluesy tone at lower distortion. The thing is build out of some kind of bomber grade sheet metal so it outlasted a few guitars. It can be chained into an effects loop at lowered setting to really punch up your distortion.

Definatly worth the $$$

By Gibson06

Comments about Pro Co RAT2 Distortion Pedal:

I got this pedal a little over a week ago and it is awesome. my buddy from relient k uses it and loves it. The only thing on the down side is it takes a certian type of power hook-up. This pedal is great for a omix of overdrive and distortian. it is a great value for the $$$$. I love this pedal and will have it for a long time.

Built like a Tank

By RBETTEN19

Comments about Pro Co RAT2 Distortion Pedal:

This is a really good distortion pedal. It's sounds really good and the pedal is built like a tank. I've owned it for years and have used it a couple of differents ways. I used to use it for the distortion but now I've been using it in my effects loop to lower the volume of my playing. My only gripe is the price. I think it's a little much.

The Rat is pretty much all you need..

By Dominic

from Albuquerque NM

Comments about Pro Co RAT2 Distortion Pedal:

This is the 6th distortion pedal I've ever owned and this one is the one that can do it all.. Grunge, Punk, Blues, and with the filter and distortion all the way up with the neck pickup on you get some old school video game sounds.. It's perfect for any kind of music and I might add that the thing is stronger than iron man.. Its worth you money.

Un-Limited

By Mark

from Calfornia

Comments about Pro Co RAT2 Distortion Pedal:

This pedal is the most amazing thing to ever step upon. It has the old school 80's style RATT tones all the way to Morbid Angel tone. This pedals is indeed very, very versatile. If guitar center carried the Rack mounted "ProCo Rat R2DU" I would definitely buy that... I highly recommend this pedal for all genres of music; This pedal has no bounds.

Way Overrated!

By Donald Bough

from N/A Indiana

Comments about Pro Co RAT2 Distortion Pedal:

I borrowed it from a friend and was extremely disappointed. I have no idea what the big deal was. I had it through a tube and a solid state and it just sounds to nasty (not in a good way) and there was no low end, just messy mids.

Comments about Pro Co RAT2 Distortion Pedal:

Vintage Rats go for ridiculous prices. They sound awesome. Was my favorite distortion till it stopped working, didn't even have it a year. Refuse to have it fixed, this thing is junk. In 20 years are these Chinese pedals going to be worth hundreds of dollars or even function? I don't think so

I got this pedal from my dads friend when i got it i plugged it in to my marshall half stack and was not imprest. the soud was just feed back didn't even change the sound so i got a new of the same one and it did the same thing!!!! and when you turn your amp up u just hear a high pitch sound out of your amp. I would recomend the Boss Metal Core it has great sound for all types of players. hope this helped

    AMAZING

    By Sam Guseman

    from Arlington, VA

Comments about Pro Co RAT2 Distortion Pedal:

This is an awesome pedal. I've played many different distortion pedals, but nothing beats its amp-like raw distortion. I use it as my main tone and deploy a TS9 to boost my solos, but at maximum gain, you wouldn't need a boost of any kind. And another thing is its versatility, it can go from a heavy overdrive, to classic rock, to jaw dropping metal. I recommend it to a play of any kind. The only problem is that you need to buy the Pro Co power supply or an adapter because the 9V power supply hole is to small for an average power supply. Other than that, blows my mind

I recently bought this pedal for my bass because I read that it's what Krist Novoselic used for all of Nirvana's live performances. I can definitely see the appeal, the thing can make all kinds of awesome noises on guitar or bass. This pedal is well worth the price.

Comments about Pro Co RAT2 Distortion Pedal:

I use The Rat to crunch up my bass for a few songs. With the distortion set low >9:00 and the filter around 3:00 for the warmer side and volume to unity somewhere around 1:00, it is very pleasing and responds to digging in with a nice, juicy break-up that really carries through the mix. The battery lasts a long time and sounds just as good with a 9V brick, Voodoo Lab in my case.

Comments about Pro Co RAT2 Distortion Pedal:

This is a nice DISTORTION pedal. It is SUPER durable, and has a lot of distortion and plenty of range in the tone control (or filter as they call it...same thing) to go from super dark to super bright. BUT I don't see fuzz here, and I feel it lacks in the "overdrive" department. Overdrive - hesitant check. Distortion - check. Fuzz - where is it? I view this as a nice distortion pedal. It's not as nice as a dedicated overdrive pedal, and I don't hear fuzz at all. My dedicated Big Muf Pi with wicker switch (no I didn't spell muf* wrong...apparently it's considered a potential profane term with their system lmao...even though they sell the darn thing lmao) is a much better fuzz pedal, and my Fulltone OCD is a much better overdrive pedal. But while they are nice, the certain "distortion" tone you get from this pedal is more than adequate. If you need a nice distortion pedal, you're set. I just don't see the super versatility in this one, as they claim. Still a 4/5 star pedal, and worth your coin! Just don't expect to drop the money on this one and get 3 pedals in one!
