The PreSonus Sceptre CoActual high-definition studio monitor takes its name from an age-old symbol of royal authority. This 2-way studio monitor will help you to discover the fine nuances of your music that can not be reproduced by conventional desings. The Sceptre's panoramic soundstage, fine detail, and stunning dynamics will astonish you. This exceptional performance is the result of an advanced coaxial design that works integrally with a 32-bit processor running Fulcrum Acoustic's TQ Temporal Equalization Technology.

PreSonus CoActual technology-the core of every Sceptre-series studio monitor-is the combination of custom transducers in a state-of-the-art coaxial design with heavy-duty DSP running TQ algorithms.

The Coaxial Conundrum
Speaker designers have long been aware that coaxial designs offer the advantages of a single point source for a consistent acoustic center and a symmetrical dispersion pattern. But until now, designing coaxial systems without a variety of acoustic anomalies has been extremely expensive. Solving the problems involved in coaxial designs requires massive amounts of DSP and subtle, sophisticated transducer design, which is why such systems have, in the past, been limited to very high-end systems with external processors.

However, Fulcrum Acoustic's amazing, cutting-edge technology has allowed PreSonus to overcome the usual design problems of coaxial systems while taking advantage of coaxial's unique properties. Thanks to custom transducers and TQ algorithms designed by Fulcrum's Dave Gunness, Sceptre CoActual monitors deliver clarity and coherence that has previously only been available in ultra-high-end systems.

The Royal Sceptre
The Sceptre series includes two models. The Sceptre S8 CoActual Studio Monitor combines an 8-inch low/mid-frequency driver and a 1-inch (25 mm), horn-loaded, high-frequency transducer into a single coaxial unit with aligned voice coils. The Sceptre S6 uses the same technology and design as the S8 but with a 6.5-inch low/mid-frequency driver. Both models have front-firing acoustic ports.

The systems are biamplified: Each transducer is powered by a 90W RMS, Class D power amp with an internal heat sink. Each Sceptre has its own internal power supply with IEC connector and a power switch with on/off LED. All Sceptre-series monitors have a balanced XLR and ¼-inch TRS line-level inputs with A-taper level control.

To this package of custom transducers, powerful DSP running custom software, and first-rate power amplification, add a rich set of acoustic adjustments and full speaker protection, and you have a new, affordable close-field monitoring standard for project studios and commercial facilities.

As you expect from PreSonus, Sceptre studio monitors use top-quality components and construction quality fit for royalty-and they look regal, too!

Coaxial Done Right with TQ
Each Sceptre monitor contains a DSP chip that enables the use of Fulcrum Acoustic's TQ algorithms. The processor is used to manage horn reflection, linear time and amplitude anomalies correction, performance contouring, and dynamic and excursion limiting.

The result is coaxial speakers that perform far better than all but the most expensive studio monitors.

You Wield the Sceptre
In addition to making possible the Sceptre's coaxial design, the monitor's onboard DSP provides user-adjustable contour features for optimizing the monitors for your mixing space. This enables full integration into any studio environment.

A four-position Acoustic Space switch controls a second-order shelving filter centered at 100 Hz, with four attenuation settings (no attenuation, -1.5 dB, -3 dB, and -6 dB) so that you can account for the boundary bass boost that occurs when the monitor is placed near a wall or corner. If you don't want to roll off those lows, set it to 0 dB. You also can adjust the Sceptre's overall sound and response using its performance controls.

Safety Matters
Any loudspeaker is subject to an assortment of environmental and performance problems, and Sceptre monitors offer protection from most common of these. RF shielding protects against radio frequencies that could be induced into the signal and become audible. (If you've ever heard a radio broadcast unexpectedly coming out of a guitar amp, that's the result of RF interference.)

Sceptre monitors also provide over-temperature protection to avoid heat-related issues and current-output limiting to prevent damage should there be a short circuit on the speaker terminals.

Finally, the power amplifiers have a "soft startup" so that you don't get damaging pops in the speakers when you power them up.

These Monitors Are Amazing

By Scott

from Burbank, CA

I was skeptical when a fellow producer told me about these monitors. We went into a pro studio and auditioned them. Both of us heard things in our mixes that we never heard in our other monitors. The highs are very defined, the middle became quite clear exposing flaws I wasn't aware of. These monitors rival monitors more that twice the price. Since buying them I was able to complete a production much faster due to the fact that I could hear things clearly BEFORE the mix down. The first track is already off for review to a TV show.

Listen to the music, not the monitors

By Daniel Breggin

from Denver, CO

Just picked up a pair two weeks ago to upgrade my home studio main monitors which were Tannoy Reveals. Wow, am I ever impressed with the way these sound! Crisp and clean from top to bottom. The coaxial woofer and horn with time alignment are just magical. It was like taking fingers out of my ears to listen to these. The sound in my home studio now rivals the pro rooms in town. These babies are not small at nearly a foot wide and deep, and almost a foot and a half high. Bigger than they look in the pictures. Solidly built with blue Presonus logo pilot lights which I think is a nice, elegant touch. The S6 would be a good choice if space is an issue. I selected these because the science in their design is top shelf, and I have had nothing but excellent success with the other PreSonus products I own. I bought them to improve the quality of my studio mixes, and I am sure they will do exactly that. I have worked in pro studios where price was no object, but for me price was an object and these are the best by far in the 'under $2500 a pair' range. You could spend more, but you sure don't need to. When I first fired them up I ran a pink noise analysis to set the eq. with my DBX PA +. The curve was so flat I ran it again to be sure it wasn't a mistake. Eventually I removed the EQ from the signal chain. There are fine tuning controls on the back, but I just run mine flat. Rush's Tom Sawyer is my standard reference track for studio and PA fine tuning. I have used it hundreds of times for this purpose. That was the first track I played through the Sceptre S8s. I expected to be able to pick apart some part of the sound but I couldn't find anything that wasn't amazing. Before I knew it, the whole cd had played twice and was starting a third time, and that is when I realized I was so relaxed and comfortable with the sound from these S8s because I WAS LISTENING TO THE MUSIC, NOT THE SPEAKERS! That was a revelation to me. Next up was some Best of Alan Parsons Project. I heard things in familiar tunes that I had never heard before. No dissapoinments here. Finally I played some of my own mixes. This is where the real critique would happen. My own wonderful mixes sounded... well, not quite so wonderful anymore. The Sceptre S8s were letting me hear exactly what I needed to hear: the flaws in my own mixes and engineering. Dogs barking outside the recording studio, flourescent lights in vocal tracks, things I never be heard in the final mix before, but there they were. Too much 125 in the kick, too much sizzle in the overheads, the list goes on and on. But you know what? THATS WHY I BOUGHT THEM! Now, back to the studio I go. I've got some more mixes to fix. And two albums worth of material I am more excited than ever to finish recording, mixing and mastering. I know monitors are the key piece to great sounding mixes, and I feel like I have hit the jackpot with the Presonus Sceptre S8s. Best purchase I ever made for my studio. You just can't go wrong with these!
