The PreSonus FP10 FireWire recording interface (formerly known as the FirePod) is a complete 24-bit/96kHz recording system that combines 8 high-quality PreSonus XMAX microphone preamplifiers with 24-bit/96kHz analog to digital conversion. PreSonus includes Studio One Artist music creation and production software with the FP10. Studio One Artist gives you the same platform and intuitive interface as Studio One Pro but with an unlimited track count. The music software also has S/PDIF and MIDI inputs and outputs for convenient and compact, professional-quality, no-hassle recording. Studio One Artist works with Mac OS X and Windows XP, Vista, and 7.
XMAX Class A preamps
The FP10's XMAX Class A preamps are custom-designed by PreSonus. They run on power rails of 30V with no op amps, and are always in an "on" state for zero crossover distortion. This allows them to deliver high headroom with low-noise sonic performance, wide dynamic range, wide frequency range, and, most importantly, musicality and transparency. This gives you smooth highs, solid, deep lows, without losing everything in between. It's perfect for recording diverse sources. 8 potentiometers are on the front panel to easily control the input level of each preamplifier.
Ins and Outs
Inputs 1 and 2 of the FP10 interface can be switched between microphone or instrument level while inputs 3 through 8 can be switched between microphone or line input. Phantom power (+48V) is available on every channel in groups of 4. Channels 1 and 2 feature fully balanced send and return TRS connectors on the rear of the rugged metal chassis for inserting outboard dynamics, EQ, and effects processors. There are 8 balanced TRS line outputs, 2 balanced TRS MAIN outputs, and CUE outputs for addtional monitoring. Using a stereo headphone output on the front panel, as well as mix control to balance monitoring levels between mixed input and main output signals, zero-latency monitoring is achieved. 2 channels of SPDIF input and output as well as MIDI input and output are also included. 2 FireWire ports make it possible to daisy-chain multiple FP10's together creating the possibility for adding additional inputs and outputs (with mic preamps) to your system.
Studio One ArtistâPlus: Gigabytes of 3rd Party Resources
The FP10 is bundled with an exceptional software package featuring PreSonus Studio One Artist DAW software for Mac OS X and Windows XP and Vista. It makes producing high-quality projects easier than ever before. As part of the Studio One Artist package, you get 20 new PreSonus Native Effects plug-ins and virtual instruments, and a generous bundle of third-party loops, software, and instrument sounds.

AS a music producer i can attest that this product is easy and fast to record with. I own two of these firepods and I would not use anything else in my recording studio.
When I, received the Presonus FP10 from UPS, I was very pleased with the way the system was packaged in foam. When I installed the unit into the rack unit and completed the software install I, was very satisfied with how easy it was. When I started multi-tracking the unit with all 8 inputs at the same time I was thrilled with the clean noiseless sound being produced from the FP10! At last a unit that eliminated that terrible hiss sound that used to come from my Yamaha keyboard! The noise had been terminated! When I burned a cd of my music I was impressed with the amount of deep pure bass that sounded from the drums! Awesome! Overall the response was outstanding! This unit was worth every dollar spent! I plan on buying two more to have a total of 24 inputs of recording single tracks at the same time! Awesome, job Presonus, you rock!
After some time looking on the internet for some good audio interface, and yet not so expensive, I bought the PreSonus FP10 (which was recommended by a friend of mine also) and I was amazed by the quality of the sound that was recorded. No noises or anything! Crystal clear sound. Great audio interface!
I have owned my 10 x 10 (mine is called a 'Firepod') for several years now. I have used it on 3 computers now with XP, Vista, and 7. Made about 100 recordings. I am currently using it on a Dell computer with windows 7. If you have dropout problems , look at your computer connection. Likely it is not the FP10. My Dell didn't have a Firewire output, so I mounted a Firewire card and everything works fine. Presonus stuff is very well made and intuitive, so likely if there are dropouts you have a compatibility problem. Good sound card. Easy to use. Very intuitive and very transparent. Produces great recordings if you know your software.
This unit is supposed to work with Mac OS X with no additional drivers needed. In my case, my MacBookPro (OS X version 10.5.8) never recognized the FP10 (ie-my laptop and the FP10 never "communicated.") I got a PreSonus customer rep on the phone and trouble shot this for 20 minutes. I even tried connecting the FP10 to my desktop iMac (OS X version 10.6.4) and still had no luck with THAT computer. I even swapped out Firewire cables hoping it was just a cable issue. No luck. Drat. Although the PreSonus customer service rep was super courteous and professional, the problem simply couldn't be solved. I really, really hoped it was user error (ie-my own stinking fault!) but I don't think I can say that about this particular FP10. I purchased a lemon. I've returned the unit to Guitar Center, and am very pleased with Guitar Center's customer service. I'm a happy GC customer. As for the FP10, most reviews of the FP10 I've read are overwhelmingly positive, so I'm super bummed it didn't work out for me. I'm not complaining, simply sharing my experience to help anyone out there make their decisions.
Can't get it to work right. Running on windows 7 with their beta drivers downloaded. Continually experience droopouts. Have not gotten one track recorded yet. Unfortunately I have owned it over 30 days - bought the new computer to make sure that wasnp[t the problem. Wish I could return it - struggling on all forums tryoing to find an answer
