Overview

The PreSonus BlueTube DP Stereo Preamp is among the most versatile two-channel mic and instrument preamps in its class. Its Dual Path technology lets you choose between two preamp stages: a transparent solid-state or warm tube preamp. Each gain stage of the BlueTube DP is pure Class A with high headroom.

Each channel of the BlueTube DP includes a -20dB pad, polarity reverse, 80Hz filter, and +48v phantom power. On the front panel you'll find controls for solid state gain and switchable on/off tube drive. When the tube drive is off, the tube preamplifier stage is bypassed delivering ultra-quiet and transparent solid state preamplification.

Large analog VU meters provide precise visual monitoring. Dual Neutrik combo jacks for microphones or instruments provides quality I/O and make the BlueTube DP great as a DI for electric bass and guitar.

This is a great deal for the money. Preamps are usually put in the 'you get what you pay for' category but I think this unit is exceptional. Run a decent mic through this and maybe a vocal enhancer and you couldn't ask for better vocals given the money spent. I use a Shure SM7B and an Antares AVP-1 vocal producer with this unit and absolutely love the results. It's the perfect thing to add that warmth I'm looking for in my vocals. And in response to all those comments regarding the lack of a power switch, some of the best rack-mounted equipment are designed to be left on. But if you are all so worried about it, instead of sabotaging the products overall review, why don't you use your brains and go to the nearest office supply store and buy a power strip with a switch on it??? That way you can plug multiple devices in and turn them all on and off with ONE simple switch. Thinking is fun!

I bought this preamp hopping to increase my recording quality. I own a presonus FP-10 and that works great but I couldn't get anything but a fuzz out of the Bluetube. I have worked with my house DAW(digital audio workstation) for around three years now with sonar and was most displeased when I worked with this product. It didnۡt warm the sound up. It didn't even add a genuine tub distortion. I recorded with and without the Bluetube to compare and actually found that I had better sounding recordings when I didnۡt use it. The Bluetube seemed to boost bass(poorly) and kill presence and treb. For the money I donۡt think its worth it. It just doesnۡt work it seems. I donۡt understand how a product like this could even make it onto the market. Did it not go through product testing?

Comments about Presonus BLUETUBE DP Stereo Dual Path Microphone/Instrument Preamp with 12AX7 Tube:

The Blue Tube changed everything for me. What I formerly thought was a clean recording I now know as poor. I can hear detail I didn't know possible. I can hear the differences in my microphones and through trial can tell what applications they are best suited for. You don't know what you don't know, and I'm glad I followed advice on Tweakheadz website and bought my first real pre-amp. This new found clarity in mic-ed recording has led to discovery and improvement in all of my recording practices and techniques. If you are using pre-amps costing less than a Benjamin, then you haven't really heard your microphones yet.

The tube feature is to be used cautiously at first until an understanding of its sensitivity is learned. Its effects can be heard just a few clicks in past "on". It can add significant transformation to tone, as well as gentle warmth at low levels.

I had to pad some of my microphones for the first time, the Bluetube revealled their signal strength that was previously unknown to me. This thing adds the juice without adding noise. My ears and eyes have been opened, my enthusiasm for recording peaked, like the signals I now get.

A good device and my church's music connoisseurs even took notice of the "rounded" and "thick" tones from my Gibson ES339 coming through the church's antiquated sound system.

Highly recommended for any guitar player.

Comments about Presonus BLUETUBE DP Stereo Dual Path Microphone/Instrument Preamp with 12AX7 Tube:

While this may be of value to those who don't have a lot of recording equipment. Since I am blessed with a great deal of high dollar mics, vocalist effects, quality recording devise, at this point I've not found it to be of any help. For me it was a bad investment, but that doesn't mean the same goes for everyone. I'm still trying to hear any thing that sounds better when using it. If you don't have a distortion pedal it does add some crunch to a guitar. This review is based on my experience, and is not meant to contradict any other review.

      Tremendously Good Deal

      By SpecGrav

Comments about Presonus BLUETUBE DP Stereo Dual Path Microphone/Instrument Preamp with 12AX7 Tube:

This is just the thing to add some warmth, whether it's to vocals, a direct or mic'd acoustic, or direct bass or guitar. I REALLY wish there was a power switch and that it had front access to the jacks, but it's a small price to pay for the warmth and clarity this gives you with no fuss. I've been recording for 15+ years, and I have to agree with the 'no better gear for the money' attitude in the other reviews.

      Doesn't work? Don't write a review

      By Sonny D

Comments about Presonus BLUETUBE DP Stereo Dual Path Microphone/Instrument Preamp with 12AX7 Tube:

Until you have used this product it is rediculous to write a review. All brands have defective products no company is immune to this. I have a working ubnit, however the first one I received had a defective channel. Rather than act like a child who got a broken toy on Christams I returned it and got a working one. You absolutely can not get a better tube pre for this price. It gives my vocals a warmth and depth I have only heard when in the studio, I record my vocals at home in the bathroom. When I plug my guitar in it even makes my practice amo sound great running direct in. It's easy to use and use it I do, it has not been disconnected frrom my BR 1200-CD since I hooked it up. Great Buy!!!

      not good

      By shoerocker

      from KY

Comments about Presonus BLUETUBE DP Stereo Dual Path Microphone/Instrument Preamp with 12AX7 Tube:

Just got this Presonus Bluetube DP yesterday. I began experimenting by putting it between my guitar and DAW to try to add a bit of warmth to the amp modeling software. The VU meter went into the red when I strummed a chord assertively with the gain on the Bluetube at zero. The 20db pad did nothing. The tube drive knob did nothing. Both channels were equally defective. I'll be returning it at once.

      Really nice for the price...

Comments about Presonus BLUETUBE DP Stereo Dual Path Microphone/Instrument Preamp with 12AX7 Tube:

I really like this and it does what it says it does. An on-off switch would be nice but they are quite easy to install. For those earlier posts wondering about stereo from only one tube... a 12AX7 tube has two "sides" in it, not only one.

very good if you know how to use it

      By BlueDOG

      from saratoga springs,utah

Comments about Presonus BLUETUBE DP Stereo Dual Path Microphone/Instrument Preamp with 12AX7 Tube:

first I use it for the VOCALS and matched with my EV RE410 MIC - it will turn dull vocals to pro sounding vocals - but be aware you will tinker and tinker until you get the right sound for you - I have no volume, full tube, and all options on including PAD - my mixer is a flat EQ and a slight delay - combined with a excellent mic and my cheapo mackie - it sounds really great live or recorded. Its all about the mic - I would not use it for guitar - buy a nice tube amp - if you are on a budget KUSTOM has a 100.00 tube amp and its not that bad.

      Bluetube + Firepod

      By Presonus_Fan

      from Virginia

Comments about Presonus BLUETUBE DP Stereo Dual Path Microphone/Instrument Preamp with 12AX7 Tube:

I've been recording with this bad boy for a little under a year now, and couldn't be happier with it. I run my guitar through it, and then through a pedal, and then into Logic Studio for some EQ and tweaking and the sound I get is AWESOME! Turn the the tube all the way up and just barely add enough solid state to make it audible and you're set!As far as vocals go, I avoid the tube for them, using only solid state, and it adds the warmth that everyone seems to be looking for. Overall, great product for the price. Piece of advice: let it run for a few days to burn the tubes in before trying to record anything through the tube.
