Solid 8 Channel Recording
Presonus has continued it's style of making solid and affordable interfaces. The Firestudio project is easy to use, sounds great and couldn't be a better buy!
This unit is perfect for bands looking to create their first demos, singer/songwriters and anyone who needs more than 2 tracks of recording, but no more than 8 inputs at a time. For more than 8 inputs, get a Firestudio which is expandable via optical inputs and the Digimax FS!
This is a great product. Super easy to use, and very reliable.

AWESOME
I just purchased this interface last night, and already, I'm loving it. The preamps sound great. I had 0 problems installing it on my iMac using Logic Studio. Before this, I had a 2 channel M-Audio interface, and the difference is in the sound. The Firecontrol software is great in the studio, for sending different mixes to each person. Quality build. BUY IT!

Great piece of hardware
I bought this a week ago and have already done quite a bit with it. I've recorded a solo harp player, solo violin, a band (acoustic guitar, electric guitar, vocals, and synth/keyboard), and a large brass ensemble( about 12 players). Not only was the setup incredibly easy, but the sound quality for every recording I've done so far is fantastic. It really sounds professional. It comes with Cubase LE and a short tutorial on how to get it all synced and recording, and it honestly couldn't be easier to record with. Overall a great quality interface that is very user friendly. I would suggest this interface to anyone.

More than enough!!!
This is my third interface and thankfully the best I have ever had. It has enough inputs for me to record my synthesizer, bass, guitar, vocals and drum set all at once. On top of that the Class A preamps sound great. It offers multi-LED metering in the front and it's build solid and rugged. I normally stuck with M-Audio but Presonus has made me a believer with this piece of hardware.

If only...
This is not a very flexible unit. Therefore, if you don't have the exact computer requirements Presonus specifies on the box.. DON'T BUY IT.. When I installed it on my PC laptop, it was probably the best thing I bought to-date, until my laptop crashed because of some virus and failed to restart ever again. (it was an older model / the unit was disconnected at the time). Sure, the laptop had some problems keeping up, but it did its job well, and it had no installation problems whatsoever.
After buying a Vista 64-bit computer, I had to install extra drivers that Presonus provides on their website, however, they seemed flawed (at least on my computer) and no longer kept constant contact with my unit. They would work one second and then fail to open the next. It basically made everything seem flimsy and extremely fragile, and honestly it was.
But other than my mishaps with this product, it truly was a good piece of equipment (in junction with my laptop). So what can you get out of this? Got a 32-bit windows XP, or any kind of Mac that meets the requirements? BUY IT. Otherwise, don’t even bother… This is a VERY case-specific interface, don’t think just getting around one little corner will work because it won’t.
HARDWARE= 5 starts for sound quality and speed
SOFTWARE= 2-3 stars for inflexibility and difficulty of use on other systems
Ps. Presonus’s tech support people were actually really friendly and patient. From my experience, they didn't give me absurd or vague answers. (don’t sound angry, it’ll make things roll a lot faster).

Love it! Getting another one!
I love this unit! I've used it for over a year now, and it hasn't glitched on me once. I'm using it to record a cd currently, but need more channels. I'm actually going to be picking up a firestudio tube. Presonus, thankfully, has drivers that allow these two products to work together. Needless to say, I would tell anyone to pick one of these up. The added plugins are kind of a nice addition as well. I would tell anyone to pick up one of these units. They're a great buy.

Greatest Thing I've Worked With
i was kinda mad when i plugged it in. i thought it would be a plug and play device, but you had to install the drivers. after that, i was confused with it, and since i was a recording "noob" at the time, i didnt know how to split the tracks up seperately. as i progressed, i figured out that i had to enable the asio on my computer. once i did that, i was able to split up the tracks and eq seperately on all of them. i was more than happy with the results. greatest thing ive ever used. thanks presonus!

do NOT buy!
Was really excited to get product and make a demo with my band. Immediately I had trouble with the output (distorted playback). Returned within the specified amount of time and got another one with the same problem. I figured it was my fault and called presonus. After installing new drivers several times it worked.... for about 2 days before output failed completely in the middle of a project. I have tried it on other computers with no luck. I have brought it to the audio departments at 2 different guitar centers and all the technicians seemed stumped by the problem. I have wasted more time on the phone with presonus (and racked up a large telephone bill) then I have spent playing music. My warranty is up now so I am left with a worthless paperweight that I can't return. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT, I have been battling my purchase for over a year now because I can't afford to buy anything new and am starting to realize that it may be in vain.

Stay clear of this unit
I couldn't wait to get this thing. It seemed too good to be true. I thought all I had to do was install the drivers, then plug and play. Boy, was I wrong. I've had it for two months now, and am ready to sell it. What the folks at GC failed to tell me was that you need a specific Firewire card for this to work. After extensive research, I've found that you need one with a TI chipset. After 730 trips to the computer store, it still doesn't work. My first Firewire card saw the Firestudio when I plugged it in, but it wouldn't play. Now, it won't even see it. I've spent hours on end trying to figure this out, and Presonus has not been helpful. Even my computer whiz friends are stumped by this. I could have had a CD out by now, but instead I've been screwing with this piece of garbage. Now, I've given up and am going to count my losses and sell it and find another method of recording. Thanks Presonus, thanks Guitar Center, you guys are wonderful. You have another satisfied customer to add to your extensive list.
