Great for the price!

Presonus finally got it right. Having owned a firepod that worked when it wanted too, I was a little skeptical about the Eureka.Im happily surprised. This is a nice little strip, very transparent if you want it to be and about the best bass DI Ive ever heard in this price range. Very nice on all guitars also as well as vocals. The only downside is the EQ, its not very usable due to a very small Q range. Oh, and like everything presonus, the knobs are too small, too close together and so reflective you cant read them without getting close. Make it a two rack space peice and give us some room!. Overall a great piece of gear though, im very happy with it!

dont be fooled by the price

This joint will blow you away! You will be surprised at how good it sounds. I dont have a lot of experience with other preamps but this one rocks. For the money it would be really hard to beat. I heard that some comparisons could be made with the joe meek preamps but I cant see how they can live up to the Eureka. The knobs are a little small if you have big fingers but you have lots of control over different parameters of the compressor and EQ. I'm sure if you had the money you could get something nicer but for the value this is an absolute A+.

Rock Solid

The Eureka is worth every penny and so is the optional DA card. The compressor is magnificent, the tube saturation emulation sounds pretty damn good and the variable impedance makes any mic shine. The EQ section works well, too. I had no problems with the Q being too narrow (as mentioned above). But I only use the EQ to smooth out problem freq. while tracking. All my real EQing is done mixing. Overall, I like Presonus gear. I own a lot and I'm glad I do.

Eureka!

This is a very nice channel strip that is worth the extra money if you're looking at strips in the lower price range. This is your tone your talking about. Your tone! Of course, if you're researching these you know what people are saying about how this sounds very nice. I would even prefer this to some of the more expensive units out there. I would prefer an Avalon, maybe, but that was way out of my range. Here's a few other things you should know about this. Periodically, Presonus offers the digital card free when you buy this. I got this, although it doesn't have the right digital connection for what I have right now, it will eventually be useful for me. It is easy to install. I also got a free AT 2020 mic with my deal, but that may not happen any more. The small knobs are arranged a little close together, which makes tweaking a little tough. If you can install this more at eye level than down by your knees it is easier to use. Plus it looks so nice you want everyone to see it. When I installed this between two efx units, they squeezed it in a way that made some of the knobs grind. Switching places fixed this- more likely a problem with the other units or my rack. The XLR is located in the back, so get a nice mic cable and leave it plugged in and accessable. With the push of a button you can switch the order of the compressor and EQ. Very cool. It's also good to have such a nice parametric EQ right in your channel strip. This does not have a tube, but has a simulated tube saturation knob. The bottom line is that just like when working with the real stuff, this will sound good on some material, but not everything. It's there if you need it.

A lot of value for the price

If you want a high quality studio tool at an affordable price this is the item for you. This unit has class A transformer coupled mic Preamps that do a very good job. The preamps are quiet and add a nice color to the sound. The EQ is usable but nothing spectacular. The compressor is also a very good tool to have in your studio. The compressors are good for vocals but them seemed to be better suited for bass guitar tracks. The unit is easy to use and it seems to be built well so it should not have any problems. Presonus has always been a good company in my opinion and they have always provided me with great customer support. I do not think you will be disappointed with this unit.
