Powell Conservatory Series Flutes offer a handmade instrument with Powell's signature flexible sound. The flute features all solid silver construction, a pinless mechanism, and drawn tone holes. Solid silver has long been used in flute making for its colorful sound, resonance, and projection. All conservatory models are made with pinless key work which offers smooth key action and helps prevent keys from binding.
To personalize Conservatory flutes three hand cut, custom headjoint options the Venti, Philharmonic and Soloist are available.
The Philharmonic has a more resistant feel than both the Soloist and Venti due to its larger embouchure plate. Characterized by a crisp, clear articulation and wide dynamic range, the headjoint assists in the creation of a warm tone with excellent projection and focus.
The Soloist was designed in collaboration with flutist Ransom Wilson, and gives the flutist complete control throughout the entire dynamic range. The embouchure plate has more curve than the Philharmonic model and allows for quicker articulation.
The Venti was designed with input from international flutist Paul Edmund-Davies. The concept behind the headjoint was inspired by Mr. Edmund-Davies experience singing in a cathedral choir. The Venti has an amazingly deep sound in all octaves, with an exceptionally resonant third octave. The sound created is powerful, yet tame and stable.
