    Best Uses

Comments about Pork Pie Polished Raw Iron Snare Drum:

This drum just drips tone. It is every bit as wonderful as the old Ludwig Super Sensitive and Tama Kingbeats I've had , over the years. The tone is kind of in between the steel sound and the brass sound. With a Remo X-14 batter head, it is a rock monster! With a Fiberskyn 3, it is delightfully dark and sensitive(jazzers and alt fans take note!). The stock batter head(an ambassador weight coated head) isn't too bad either. Good rimshots and cross-sticking, in general. I'm usually a 10 lug, die cast rim guy, but this drum has changed my mind about all that. I get many compliments on the tone and look of this snare. A caveat: If you are one of those that use tree trunks for sticks, and beat the living snot out of things, you will need to take steps to keep the drum in tune. This drum seems to speak best when you "pull" the tone from the drum, as many drums do.I'm not a heavy hitter(5A, 5B, 7A sticks), so staying in tune has not been an issue for me.

      Over all, a great snare!
