Snare drum

This is the best snare drum! Sounds amazing when I put a 13" Clean Black Dot Remo head on it. I thought it sounded better with that then a Coated Head.

The snare is damn cool looking. As far acrylic snares go, this one is very limited in its tonal qualities. I own three acrylic snares and all are either piccolos or vented and that's really the only way an acrylic ever sounds good. It's definitely got some nice pop to it. Most will find it too hollow sounding, even for an acrylic. Still, despite it's flaws, the drum is a Pork Pie and it's a nicely made one at that. For $300 bucks there are many more versatile snares out there, though this one does have a distinctive pop. It will mostly be a niche item for those who love that dark crisp sound of acrylic.

Best snare under $300 by far

By Andy Leffler

Comments about Pork Pie Pig Lite Acrylic Snare Drum:

I went and saw about 25 snares on display, some were over $1000.00, a few were around $150.00. I went down the line tapping on each one, listening. After going down the line I came back to this one because I could not believe what I was hearing. It had a coated G1 on it and was tuned within it's normal range, not too tight etc. I have never heard a snare with as much crack and loudness in my life. It is also very sensitive as long as you use a coated G1. I bought one and I love it. All my friends that I jam with commented on it and it sounds incredible in the studio as well. Since they are discontinued they will probably go up in value. I'm sure this particular acrylic snare will become somewhat of a classic. Get one now.

don't buy the hype but do buy the snare

Comments about Pork Pie Pig Lite Acrylic Snare Drum:

I really like this snare. The other drummer in our studio uses it and I've played it a couple of times. I'm not sure If I can justify Pork Pie's price tag. It's not an amazing snare, but it does have a more controlled ring and overall sound without dampening. Seems to project really nicely without being too loud and makes my snare seem kind of dull.

Best for the money.

Comments about Pork Pie Pig Lite Acrylic Snare Drum:

Amazing Price. Amazing Sound. Amazing Snare. If you're looking for a tight loud crack, or a fat deep thud, this snare is right for you. The only faults I've found are the threads on the tuning lugs seem a bit rough and poorly made, but I guess they have to cut corners somewhere to give you such a nice acrylic snare for this price. And the washers on the tuning lugs are steal, not nylon, so tuned on the loose side, the bottom lugs kept coming loose on me, to the point where after a half hour of playing, I'd find myself picking them up off the floor below my snare. Buy a pack of nylon washers with this snare, and you'll be happy you did. Other then these two very small drawbacks, this is simply one of the best sounding snares I have ever played.

SOLID

Comments about Pork Pie Pig Lite Acrylic Snare Drum:

THis snare has a good pop to it, and the hardware is definately solid.but for me, this snare is hard to tune to a sound that would compliment reggae or ska. It can be done, but it would take some time. Its definately worth the money

Comments about Pork Pie Pig Lite Acrylic Snare Drum:

This snare has a lot of attitude! At first..I was having trouble finding the tuning I liked. I'll say that it takes getting used to and finding the sound that you like. However, once you get to know this drum.. watch out cuz' it will blow you away! I found out that it has a sensitive side too.. it is very sweet and can pick up soft rolls and ghost strokes. Overall, this drum is loud and has a big bang-crack-kaboom. Its deep enough to have lower tunings if you would like, and it sounds great with a huge sound. The overtones of the acrylic keep the drum very aggressive and if you like a little ring..you got it. Although, I found out if you put a G1 coated on it (or a thinner single ply head) with a tad bit of moon gel, you can still get that nice, open sound without some of the ring. Overall, this drum is great and if you are thinking about getting it.. you won't be dissapionted. Get to know the drum and I promise you it will have something good to offer!

a great buy for any serious musician

Comments about Pork Pie Pig Lite Acrylic Snare Drum:

I bought this snare a while ago, and I can honestly say that it is probably the best snare I've ever played, heard, or seen. Straight out of the box, it was in perfect tune, cranked up high, which sounded great for reggae, or ska, or alt music. And I sometimes tune it down a bit to play post-hardcore songs, and the drum completly gives you a distinct sound that everyone will love. It is a great recording snare, too. And its also the best looking snare Ive ever seen. put simply, this snare will never let you down, and if you are uneasy about acrylic snares, go down to your local music shop, try one of thease things out, and be amazed.

In Love!

Comments about Pork Pie Pig Lite Acrylic Snare Drum:

This snare is the best snare I have played on! I use to use the squealer but my buddy sold it so I stuck with the pork pie brand which was a great idea! Cracks when cranked high but still sounds great tuned lower, not to mention it looks sweet as hell and its made very well! Its a good bet going with this snare!

Looks great--and sounds even better than it looks

By TCB

from NYC

Comments about Pork Pie Pig Lite Acrylic Snare Drum:

I was skeptical about the sound that might come from an acrylic snare, having tried those of several other brands, most of which were much more expensive. In this case, though, I was immediately taken by the pop, crack, and depth that I heard from this the first time I tried one. Unlike some acrylic snares that sounded too dull and hollow, this one is full of life. It has a great sound and really cuts through the rest of the band, yet is sensitive enough for quieter and more intricate playing when needed. Although I've been using it as a secondary snare, it certainly is versatile enough to be your only snare. And, as I've said, it really looks great.

Power Snare

By Gingerman

from Boston, MA

Comments about Pork Pie Pig Lite Acrylic Snare Drum:

This Piglite acrilic is great. Very powerful sound and flexible tuning ranges. It sounds great with my Mapex M Birch set and blows away the snare that came my original set. It's a nice departure for anyone who wants to try something diferent from the standard wood and metal snares. Much differnt sound. I play in a three piece band and this thing has the volume needed.
