I've had this snare drum for years now, but never got around to reviewing it. First things first, I wouldn't recommend this snare drum. It looks great, it sounds decent, however it's too expensive for what you get. With an emperor coated head it's got a vibrant, overtone-y, sound with limited applications. This is due to all of the vents and the flanged hoops don't help tighten the mix either. I use an Evans Genera Dry head exclusively now and almost all of the unpleasant overtones and rings are cut. My main issue with the snare drum is the quality. Never in my life have I used such a poorly made product. Within the first month the tension rods would consistently come loose. They would fall out of the bottom and after every two songs I have to retune the batter head. I tried lock tight, but even that only goes so far. I said fine if it's just the tension rods, I can handle it. But no! The lugs started unscrewing as well! I had to take apart all of the hardware and apply lock tight to every screw. This appeased my problem, but I still have regular bump-ins. None of the vent holes are secured properly and the vent covers are all loose. Year after year I grow more and more tired. I can't bring myself to sell this snare because I don't want someone else to deal with this problem. The service at Pork Pie was lackluster. They said,"it's fine, just put some lock tight on it". The throw off is cheap, and I have to tighten it during a set quite often. I don't know why they still manufacture the Little Squealer line. Both their kit and snare all have these issues. I'd like to add I purchased this snare on sale and I STILL wouldn't recommend. I did a lot of research before I made the purchase, but I wish I knew the quality of the snare before. It's absolutely not worth it.

Pork Pie Powerhouse

By Kevin

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

I just purchased this snare on 6/18 (Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum - 7" x 13") from the Central Dallas store after comparing this drum to three other 13ۡݕ_ snare drums. 1. Pork Pie Brass Patina Snare Drum, 2. Tama Metalworks Steel Snare Drum, and 3. Yamaha Steve Jordan Snare. I was looking for a 13ۡݕ_ snare drum to add to my collection. I had read a lot of great reviews about the Steve Jordan snare but compared to this drum (PP Little Squealer) ۡ no contest. Also, the price of the SJ snare is much more expensive (though great quality). The SJ snare seemed to like being tuned in the higher range (much like SJ's snare tuning), but sounded a little choked for my taste. I have to give a nod to the Tama snare for a great drum that is well made and a great value (low $). The Tama snare had wood sounding overtones, even though it was a metal snare drum (warm sounding). The PP Patina (brass) drum was my second choice overall. If you like metal snares this drum sounded bright and crisp with that brass ring! It sounded good in all range of tunings. I have played drums for many, many years and have a lot of snare drums, including some fantastic sounding American made Pork Pie snares. This drum is one of the best sounding snares I have ever heard! This Little Squealer snare drum is crisp and very open sounding with a lot of power. I was worried about the volume of a 13ۡݕ_ drum but I played this drum as soon as a got it home for a couple of hours and it is very loud (not sure if it has to do with all the holes in the shell). This is a great value for the money. The drum is not much to look at (plain flat black finish), but this drum really works! You can tune it up or down and it sounds great! I put an Emperor Coated drum head on it (tuned pretty tight) and it absolutely kills! I liked the fact that the store let me play all these snare drums ۡ good customer service is important to me and the Sales Rep was very helpful.

BANG for your buck

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

Low on funds and need a snare that will cut through the loudest amps? Solution - Pork Pie Little Squealer 13"x7" Vented. I own several snare drums and finally found the sound I was looking for when I found this drum (have not purchased another one since). I wanted a snare that offered a loud, cutting CRACK like a piccolo but with deeper tone - this is it. I have gigged this snare for the past two years and can't wait to hear it recorded. Love the look, love the response and only had to change the head (cause I tore through the Pork Pie head in about 2 weeks - I hit hard). The only complaint I can post comes from my band mates - they say this snare drum hurts their ears....they just don't understand.

This snare was made for YOU

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

I dont write reviews about anything, EVER. But, after purchasing this snare, I had to. So I will make this extremelly simple. BUY IT! This snare looks great. It plays even better! It has great tunabilty that holds. Tune it high, tune it low.. it doesnt matter, this snare preforms as if it were a 5"X14" or a 6"X10", it's rim shot can pierce thru any stack you put it next to. Personally it outperforms any snare out on the market, even those priced at twice as much! If I could give it 10 stars I would. BUY IT!!!

    Epic Snare

    By Kelso K

    from Aurora, IL

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

This snare is AMAZING. End of story - this will be the snare you own forever. Live, recording, practice it perfect for all situations. This drum shines when any form of metal or rock is played. It really has amazing attack and response. Worth every penny. I put remo ambassador head on it and I really think the snare and that head are the perfect setup for a metal drummer's snare for that dry pop. It tuned perfectly in around 10 mins and fine tuning was minimal. Truely amazing snare drum. Epic.

    Dry and loud

    By Mark55

    from Rochester MI

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

When you first get it, this snare has alot of high end overtones and ringing due to the vents. Once you get any sort of dampening on it (moongel or an Evans HD dry head work well) you get a high, dry cracking sound. This snare is also LOUD, which is another effect of the Vents. Definetly a snare worth getting, and since its Pork Pie, you know it'll last a long time.
