I have to say that this snare is the best by far on pitch, sound, you name it.This snare tunes with ease unlike those acrylic snares, and guess what fellas, with this snare you get the same loud tight pitch on this snare, but this one is easier to tune, and more versatile cause of the maple shell, this snare is instant greatness,no need to mess with, dont need to change snares or heads, this thing is like buying a bmw or mercedes, its so nice you just leave it as is,this snare is the best buy!!!every cent worth plus more!

I've had this snare drum for years now, but never got around to reviewing it. First things first, I wouldn't recommend this snare drum. It looks great, it sounds decent, however it's too expensive for what you get. With an emperor coated head it's got a vibrant, overtone-y, sound with limited applications. This is due to all of the vents and the flanged hoops don't help tighten the mix either. I use an Evans Genera Dry head exclusively now and almost all of the unpleasant overtones and rings are cut. My main issue with the snare drum is the quality. Never in my life have I used such a poorly made product. Within the first month the tension rods would consistently come loose. They would fall out of the bottom and after every two songs I have to retune the batter head. I tried lock tight, but even that only goes so far. I said fine if it's just the tension rods, I can handle it. But no! The lugs started unscrewing as well! I had to take apart all of the hardware and apply lock tight to every screw. This appeased my problem, but I still have regular bump-ins. None of the vent holes are secured properly and the vent covers are all loose. Year after year I grow more and more tired. I can't bring myself to sell this snare because I don't want someone else to deal with this problem. The service at Pork Pie was lackluster. They said,"it's fine, just put some lock tight on it". The throw off is cheap, and I have to tighten it during a set quite often. I don't know why they still manufacture the Little Squealer line. Both their kit and snare all have these issues. I'd like to add I purchased this snare on sale and I STILL wouldn't recommend. I did a lot of research before I made the purchase, but I wish I knew the quality of the snare before. It's absolutely not worth it.

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

Love the little squealer. Took a little tuning to get it just right, but sounds awesome! Brought a whole new life to me kit. Amazing that a new snare would have that capability! I play mostly loud, heavy metal beats and sounds great. I also like to play groove oriented funky beats and it has great application there as well. Seems like an all around great snare for a very reasonable price! Highly recommend!

    Great Snare

    By Randy Kyle

    from St.Louis Missouri

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

This is a great new snare for your drum set. I couldn't get exactly the right sound that I wanted out of my Tama Imperial star snare. So I found this looking online. So I went to my local gc and tested it. it wasnt quite in tune so the worker tuned it up for me and it sounded great. it has a great pop to cut through amps, or for rim shots, it also has a good quiet side for ghost notes. i got home put it on my kit and first thing is it was quite a bit bigger than my last snare so i lowered my stand the lowest it would go. and i was blown away. my brother who plays guitar said it sounded awesome. THIS THING IS LOUD!!

    Poppy, Good for punk music

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

When I went in the look at it, the color amazed me first off, but then i tested it after a little tuning and i was blown away. It's a great upgrade to a starter. Get it while the price is low, it is an overall great snare! Very poppy and sound goes a long way. Have a show in a few days and i can't wait to test it out mic'd up!

    Just missed it.

    By Jon Lee

    from Austin, Texas

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

First off, I like Black...I really really like Black. I was looking forward to buying this snare for about a month. I thought it was about what I was looking for, but quickly ran into a few particulars that I didn't like so much. This drum is very ringy. Even after replacing the snares with Puresound snares and changing the top head to an Aquarian Response 2 Coated, I was forced to use two full sized Moongels. The second problem I had was the tension rods constantly coming loose, and literally falling out of the bottom while playing live. Locktight did a little to help this, but those rods continued to come loose throughout a show, or practice when played for more than 1 hour.

    CRISP AND PUNCHY

    By Tyler T

    from Bakersfield, CA

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

This snare is just great. I fell in love with it when i tried it out in my local guitar center. I played a 600 dollar DW snare before trying this one, and this one kicks the DW's Butt!!! Its got great versatility and plenty of sensitivity for those jazzy/groovy beats, but also GREAT punch and projection for its size. The rim sounds great. It can be tuned high or low and still sound amazing. Best Snare Ive ever played and I have 14 years drum experience. Go get it if you want a great snare for the money.

    SWEET!!!

    By DrummerofGod

    from Las Vegas Nevada

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

I've always wanted a snare that's deep and not too big that would get in the way of my legs when I double pedal. This snare not only helps with that but it sounds great! It's loud and piercing, and it looks pretty sweet with the black ebony satin finish, it's kinda like matte black But if you're looking for a cheap, deep, piercing snare that makes room for double pedal, then this is the snare for you.

    Great for Metal or Rock

    By Pete

    from PA

Comments about Pork Pie Little Squealer Snare Drum:

This snare is literally the best sounding snare I've ever played (and I've tested out alot at guitar center and other stores). I doubt I'll ever buy a new snare unless I order a custom one. Everybody likes the Joey Jordison signature snare... but this snare sounds better and louder. Has just as much crack or more than the Joey Jordison snare... and costs alot less... Overall, I couldn't be happier with this snare, its probably my favorite addition to my kit. Buy now!
