I first heard this drum on a youtube video of Chris Coleman. Loved the sound and heck if chris coleman liked it enough to use it, it must be a treat to play. So I bought the drum and it sounded great right out of the store. Within a few weeks the tension rods began to rust.(Nothing else on my gretsch renown kit had any signs of rust nor did any of my hardware) I continuously had issues keeping the tension rods under my backbeat tight. It became so bad that after playing for 5 minutes or less the rod became completely loose. A few months later, after replacing the tension rods, the piece of the lug in which the tension rods are screwed into busted. My final conclusion, Pork Pie has mass produced their boutique name and it no longer comes with quality, atleast not with this drum. For the same price you can get A Pearl Masters MCX or A Gretsch Maple Snare drum! Two options i think are much higher quality. Another Tip: if you decide to get this drum, get the pro warrenty!

Closeout Bargain

By Robert Cameron

Comments about Pork Pie Curly Maple Snare Drum:

This American made snare drum is absolutely gorgeous! The finish has a 3D quality that looks holographic upon close inspection. Stunning! The hardware features Pork Pie's hourglass lug design, substantial, and handsome in my opinion. There is however, some small, barely visible, pitting in the chrome. The snare throwoff has a smooth, solid feel. I like the plastic finger grip. The snare wires are 20 strand, and are good quality. The stock heads aren't very good. I swapped out the heads for Evans,[top and bottom] as soon as I got the drum. The drum tunes easily, has great snare sensitivity, and fairly wide tuning range. Overall tone is bright and crisp. Excellent value at this price level. Certainly worth a look and listen.

GREAT SNARE

Comments about Pork Pie Curly Maple Snare Drum:

When I went to the store to buy a snare this one caught my eye then I try it and let me tell you the sound is awesome. I have been playing for 24 years, I played Ludwig, Pearl, Tama, Mapex and Yamaha brands and this snare has a great sound. I have had this snare for 3 years and it sounds as the first time I bought it, the hardware and finish it stills looks like new (no rust) and I still use the same head which is made by Remo for Pork Pie. Great snare get it you won't regret it.

Comments about Pork Pie Curly Maple Snare Drum:

This snare is nothing great. Sounds alright. Not think enough to get a nice fat sound (if thats what youre looking for). It looks great... but that means nothing to a studio owner... The pork pie black brass is cheaper and MUCH better!

Awesome Snare

Comments about Pork Pie Curly Maple Snare Drum:

First off, This snare is absolutely beautiful!! the wood color and chrome hardware compliment each other nicely. The stock heads sound ok, but im not a fan of single ply heads so i changed em out for some evans (hd14 and hazy 300) and this thing sings!! Its got a great full sounding snappy tone, and its amazingly loud!! Definitely Worth every penny!

Awesome Snare!!!

By david

from McMinnville, Oregon

Comments about Pork Pie Curly Maple Snare Drum:

I traded in a marching snare and pork pie acrylic for the curly maple and i am glad i did! It has a much wider tuning range than the pork pie acrylic and has better sounding tone so i can use it in any style of playing... not to mention the stunning look of the grains of wood! definitly worth the money!

Snare-tastic

By Thunder-YA-WG

from Knightstown, IN

Comments about Pork Pie Curly Maple Snare Drum:

Someone recently asked me about my snare before a show, "What does your new snare sound like? Is is tight, deep, or warm...?" I stopped him their and told him, "All of the above." This snare fits everything I'm looking for in a snare. It's got a lot of crack and character. When I play it, it feels like smacking a little piece of heaven.
