I bought it at my local guitar center when it was on sale. I'm thoroughly satisfied with the sound i'm getting out of this baby. I put on remo ambassador and remo ambassador snare side heads on this drum, and it sound so fat! I like my snare tuned lower than most, and even though it was tuned low, it had a lot of body and crack. It sounds best when hit very loud! I cant say i would recommend this to someone who is playing a softer/slower genre of music (for slower genres, i would recommend a wood snare drum). also, this drum can have a lot of ring (because its a brass shell) but if you tune it properly (preferably using a Drum Dial if you're new to drum tuning)and put on some moon gel or duct tape this drum will sound awesome for playing rock/pop/hip hop/metal. I was a little apprehensive about buying this snare drum at first, because of its "unique" dimensions (13x7), but this snare drum has made a total difference in my overall sound. If you're in the market for a new snare drum, this is the drum for you! and besides, if you REALLY don't like it, you can always return it. don't pass this snare drum by!
Quick and dirty: Terrific 13" brass snare with excellent tuning range and sensitivity (particularly great high end crack) that projects wonderfully with EXCELLENT Pork Pie build quality that HOLDS it's tuning for ages. For me it has the perfect balance of high end and body, since it's 13" (better for higher tuning) but 7" deep. And brass always lends itself to greater attack. For this price? Get it. No-Brainer.
I was at my local G.C. and they just got some new floor model drum sets so I sat down at a Gretsch Reknown Maple 6pc (which is a very very good set). and im a hard rock and metal drummer (i play Disturbed, KoRn Metallica Slipnkot and a lil Tool, etc.) so naturally i need a snare that cuts through the guitar and bass nd mic. if you can get passed the finish (i personally love it) its is an amazing snare. the rims sound good for those nice rim shots. But another detail that caught my eye when i was playing it was the throw-off. it was so clean and eazy do do. if you need a snare that cuts through the music and your wallet isnt too fat like mine, this is so worth every penny you would spend! -Asylum
Man, This Snare drum is amazing! When I first bought this from the store It already had a used up snare drum head on it, Being to Lazy I never really came across the time to put a new head on til now. And Can I tell you with the new head this snare drum sounds so much more amazing I can tune it to a low pitch or high pitched with out any problems. This is one heck of a snare drum!
Ive had this snare for a week now and I give this snare a 5* walked into guitar center with a 300 buck budget for a snare and i was given this to try and i was automatically impressed by the sound of this pork pie.. the sound is very adjustable and has a very strong pop to it and is great for the rocker and jazz feel i highly recommend this to anyone looking for a snare drum on this budget and looking for the snare drum that can be adjusted in so many ways by the tension rods.. This is one of the best sounding snare drums... and for 300$ its absolutely worth every penny and more. Versitile, you can tune it loose or tight, and still get a full sounding timbre. The 13 inch width gives it a SUPER punch, and the 7 inch depth makes it full bodied. I've played on a ton of snares over the past 6 years of my drumming career and I could say this snare is one of my favorite of all time. It just feels, sounds, and looks good.
perfect dimension and great dynamics. deep tone with a balanced ring. greatest snare ever played
I almost passed on this snare for a maple Yamaha...glad I didn't. I play all sorts of music, mostly metal, but it fits right in. I have played 3 or 4 shows without micing it and nobody missed a snare beat! It has the best tone out of any snare I have played, it cuts through everything, and looks great. The shame is only being able to give it 5 stars instead of 6! I am getting another one for my new kit this summer.
I have owned this snare drum for a few months now and I am loving it! It sounds great if you tune it up high and this thing really packs a punch too. Definitely worth the money!
This snare will mess you up in the best possible way. There's no missing it. it will pierce through and overpower any sound it's up against. It has amazing versitility in sound and sensitivity. I dig the hell out of mine. Get one. They're totally metal
