I just picked up this snare 2 day and it truely was amazing. I changed out the old head for a new remo weather king power dot and BOY DOSE IT SING! It has amazing roles and the cleanest, most cutting but not overpowering pop ive heard in a long time. Since i play jazz and rock it is truely amazing how well this snare fits both generas. Thank you porkpie!!

Don't listen to the other reviews. These guys must have a really bad ear for them to say this is one of the best sounding drums they ever played. If you are rock drummer this drum will apply to u most so listen. I got this snare for looks. I eventually progressed as a drummer and in doing so realized the sounds u get out of this drum blow. The range is terrible u can tune it all u want but the acrylic shell(while hot as hell) destroys the sound. Bottom line is acrylic shells do not have as good of a sound as maple or wood in general (definatly not maple). So if u have any musicianship what so ever. You will not get this drum(nothing against pork pie, there seats are orgasmic). If u want it for looks and very few different sounds go for it, it cracks well i guess. But be careful when buying acrylic drums. If you want a pork pie get a little squeeler especially if you play ska or want a side snare.

Awesome Snare

By Taylor Krause

from Mobile

Comments about Pork Pie Acrylic Snare Drum with Black Powder Hardware:

I have been playing this snare as my primary snare for around 8 years, Admittedly in my earlier years I bought this because it looked sweet but the more i play it the more i like it. It can be tuned low and have that long lasting pop or tuned high to have that techno snare sound. I have become a funk drummer primary because of this snare, and don't be fooled this thing can play all styles with some tuning. It's overtone is why i cant get away from it, rim shots sound so good and can also be goasted so low. Does require a lot of tuning but it is an easy process with pork pies hardware. Durable, it looks the same as it did on day one. I put a black light under the snare shinning up and i makes it look pretty cool at night.

Good Sound for Well Priced Acrylic

By Rhett Morgan

from Colorado

Comments about Pork Pie Acrylic Snare Drum with Black Powder Hardware:

Got this snare a couple days ago and from what ive heard out of this thing so far... i cant complain. Pretty good sound for an acrylic snare of this price range. Deep warm sounds with a nice pop. This is not a seamless acrylic (glued shut) but it still sounds fairly good. The drum looks great, and when i opened it up it already came with remo ambassadors both top and bottom. It also came with a higher quality snare wire compared to other stock wires that come with other drums of this price range. There is one huge downside to this snare for for however. The throw off is switched to the opposite side of the snare. Now some may think I am being stupid by not just turning the snare 180 degrees, but the reality is that if you do that the throw off is still goofy. Instead flipping the throw off the normal way you would have to flip it backwards to what you are used to. Not a huge deal, I mean it doesnt effect the sound of the snare just the ergonomics. Overall this is a good looking snare that sounds pretty good for the level and price which it is set at.

Comments about Pork Pie Acrylic Snare Drum with Black Powder Hardware:

I do a lot of studio work (drum tech, producer, engineer) and I have this drum in my collection (which is HUGE). It is a decent drum and works well on heavy hitters, who only play backbeat. When it comes to subtle articulations this is NOT the drum. Press rolls are mediocre at best and at low volumes it sounds very "unpolished". The issue is not tuning or heads. I have tried every head combo under the sun and a few different brands of snare wire (pure-sound, DW, Sonor, Gibralter etc...) and the problem lies in the shell. I am sure it's just a bad combo of lugs and placement. I own a few other acrylic drums (SPAUN etc...) and they exhibit some of the same behaviors, but nowhere near as bad as this drum. Oddly enough TONS of drummers pick this from my collection to record with. My collection includes custom black beauties, dunnets, gretschs, Sonor (artist) and other "high-end" pieces...why anyone would pass those drums up for this one is beyond me, but hey life is strange. I have to admit is records very well on heavy hitters (plenty of crack)...

Good Beginner Snare

By Sean

from Clinton, CT

Comments about Pork Pie Acrylic Snare Drum with Black Powder Hardware:

I bought this snare based on looks (Acrylic) and the Pork Pie name... I replaced the old head with remo weather king power dot and it helped a lot. Unfortunately, this snare is limited and the sound is not a crisp as I would like it. Personally, I'd go with a Tama Warlord. Leave Acrylic and go back to wood. You get a much better snare.

Gorgeous Look and Sound.

By Eddie

Comments about Pork Pie Acrylic Snare Drum with Black Powder Hardware:

This Snare Has become my favorite snare period. I've had it for quite some time, and bought it used. It has amazing power to its sound (When applied). I've actually had some problems with it being too loud in certain playing atmoshperes, however playing it lighter does not take away from its tone. Even when its tuned High and tight, this baby can sound real good. The only problems with that are some overtones/ring. So if you like playing it that way, put a O-ring, or some moon gel. I've tried many different head, mostly coated, and they work great for a deep rock sound. Me and another friend of mine both have this same snare and love it. Also, Looks Awesome!

Still own it after 4 years

Comments about Pork Pie Acrylic Snare Drum with Black Powder Hardware:

This drum was given to me as a gift the more and more I got better with drumming and its tweaks you can give your drums the more i loved this drum. It gives me the loud poping ear piercing sounds that Travis Barker used to use back in the good ol` days of Blink 182. And for the price its a steal. I love it so much I now own two of them. I highly recommend this drum to anyone wanting a loud piercing sound.

Pig Lite

Comments about Pork Pie Acrylic Snare Drum with Black Powder Hardware:

I bought this snare because I love pork Pie, and it is amazing, if you are a rock drummer you may not like it, but if you are a Punk drummer and you like to crank your snare about as tight as it will go it is awesome! It has a awesome cracky sound and overtones aren't bad, they are perfect. It's a truly amazing drum, and behind the badge it has (hand written) the production number and date it was made. If anything I think this snare should cost more than it does.
