• Simply amazing!

  From wearing headphones and playing as loud as I want and not waking the wife, to porting app effects AND songs through my amp, iRiffPort just works. The product quality in both construction and function is outstanding. Though I can not compare with other products such as iRig, the iriffport sounds supurb, and the available apps are very nice too. I'm using PocketAmp to learn solo's of favorite songs, backing tracks to practice my own style, and even listen to a collection of short riffs bought on CD. I can target the area of interest, slow down (or speed up) and repeat the selected area until my heart is content. My only wish is that it worked with more apps. Though the iRiffPort is a bit on the spendy side, I feel it has performed at that price point and I would buy it again, and again, and again. :-)

• Ok as long as you don't want a clean sound

  The iriffport device is a great concept with a few issues. First is that if you plan to use it for heavy metal distorted sound, you will probably be happy. On the other hand, if you want a clean guitar sound on any occasion, this has problems. Even with the clean option and gain set to minimum, playing either of my electrics through it results in clipping distortion. I think this may be a fundamental design flaw with not enough dynamic range on the input. It may be possible to dial back the guitar volume to improve it, but then it's difficult to get the volume loud enough. The other problems are related to the Pocketamp software. It can be very annoying at times. First is the dialog box that pops up every time you start the software with iriffport connected telling you that it found the device. Even after you click the "don't show me this again" button, it completely ignores your request and next time you start it, the dialog is back. I also don't like the way it automatically goes to the next song when playing along with a song. Most often, this would be used to work on one song for a while, so when it gets to the end it should just stop, not start the next song. I really like the ability to play along with anything in your library and do the looping and speed and pitch adjustments. However the pitch adjustment would be infinitely more useful if it allowed changes finer than a full semitone. There are many songs that are not right on pitch so being able to adjust to something that is just a bit off would be great. Overall a 3 star for me.
