Overview

The HDJ-500 DJ headphones adapt the styling and performance cues of Pioneer's top-of-the-line HDJ-2000 headphones. Designed with maximum comfort and durability in mind, the HDJ-500 uses urethane pads that allow the ear pads to mold around your head and ears for a snug, slip-resistant fit. Additionally, the urethane pads are wrapped in high-quality leather, providing greater comfort. The main structure of the headphones is crafted with a magnesium alloy for durability and light weight, making them great for travel and long periods of use.

The HDJ-500's stylish design is matched by its professional sound quality. They provide clear audio reproduction, especially in the critical low and midrange frequencies-key for remixing. The HDJ-500s efficiently reproduce the low-frequency range by combining 40 mm diameter drivers with a thick 19um (micrometers) diaphragm, and copper-clad, aluminum wire (CCAW) voice coil. Snare and kick drum sounds are clearer, making beatmatching even easier for DJs.

Rotating Arm Structure
For maximum flexibility during performances, the HDJ-500 features a rotating arm structure that allows the user to rotate the right earpiece forward and back by as much as 60 degrees. At that position, the flexible headband maintains enough side pressure to allow the DJ to listen to audio on just one side of the headphones.

Two Interchangeable Cords
The headphones include two interchangeable cords providing freedom of movement during performances. The traditional 1.2 meter coiled cord (extends to 3m) is perfect for regular DJ performances, while the 1-meter straight cord is ideal for leisure listening

This is my third set of cans since I began DJing years ago. These have held up well, sound awesome, are comfortable and look good on too. For this price I'll be sticking with these for a while.

I have used Pioneer Hdj's for club/mobile/home rec they all performed well but for proffesional recording I would have to pay more and probably go with Ultrasone or something comparable.

Sound great and comfortable, but junk construction.

These sound great (and loud) for DJ use, however they will break on you! The plastic headband is junk. Mine finally broke in 3 places. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!

My third pair of PIONEER headphones...and now my LAST

      By Edvin Pagalilauan

      from San Diego, CA

Comments about Pioneer HDJ-500 DJ HEADPHONES:

(Actually bought 3 pairs of PIONEER headphones all together and ALL were bad...read more of my reviews). So...my first pair (PIONER HDJ-1000) lasted about 2 years. Sound quality was great and they felt pretty comfortable. Then one day I pull them out and find a tiny crack at the swivel hinge. Sure enough, the piece broke off completely and that one piece was left dangling by the wire. I thought it was just me and handling them cracked the housing...so I bought the HDJ-1500. (Review for that one as well) But with that pair, they cracked and broke off during my FIRST gig using them!!! And I was opening for SHOWTEK. Man...those pics and videos are embarrassing seeing my earpiece dangle from my head. :/ That plastic housing is just too flimsy for the price you're paying for them. So watch out for that. I handled my pairs so delicately and even purchased a hard case for them. Nonetheless...they broke on me. So going with a more inexpensive route...i bought the HDJ-500...Big mistake. (Review for that as well) After 3 months of use, one of the monitors is cutting out. Obviously faulty wiring...although it held up pretty nicely as far as quality. Just cant catch a break from PIONEER. But if you DO purchase any of their products (especially headphones)...be sure to get the protection plan. It ended up being well worth it.

Great for what I bought them for!

      By James Knapp

      from Reno, NV

Comments about Pioneer HDJ-500 DJ HEADPHONES:

Recently, the old, busted headphones I used primarily for DJing (Able Planet NC200's) broke. Now, these headphones were pretty durable. I'd had them for three years and from trip to trip and gig to gig they broke more and more. I'd taped them, glued them, and generally prayed they wouldn't bust in the middle of a set. I have a second pair for producing and mastering music, AKG 702's, but given those are open headphones, they were too impractical for DJing. Not to mention, I don't want to go out on the town with a pair that valuable. So that left me with one option, find a perfect pair for ~$100. I went on amazon and checked prices, reviews, and details to find the ideal pair of headphones. Then I got a call yesterday offering a very large and very fun sounding gig, so my search went into overdrive. I had to get a pair of headphones immediately! I decided upon a pair of Numark Redwave headphones, but when I got to guitar center, I didn't like them as much as I'd hoped. I tested both Shure 550's and these HDJ 500's, and decided that the sound, build quality, and appearance of these were far better. I bought them and headed over to the gig, after 3 hours of wearing and using these headphones I can honestly say they are exactly what I was looking for. All of the features reinforce Pioneer's great reputation for quality products. As another reviewer said about the warranty: Don't shoot yourself in the foot. Get the protection plan, hopefully it's a waste of money, if you catch my drift. Too long, didn't read? BUY THESE.

      Great value and performance

      By Terry Delongchamp

      from Ann Arbor, Mi

Comments about Pioneer HDJ-500 DJ HEADPHONES:

I needed a new set to replace an ancient pair of Pioneer headphones I'd been using. I'm glad I came across this set as they are comfortable to wear, provide great sound, and were very reasonably priced. I like the ability to swivel the ear piece as well. It works perfect to keep them on your head, but still allow you to hear what is in cued up. All in all a great buy...you won't be disappointed.

      I'm in bass heaven

      By Hal Clark

      from Dallas, TX

Comments about Pioneer HDJ-500 DJ HEADPHONES:

I've been producing music for about 8 years and just recently joined the ranks of electronic music producing. My music is very bass heavy, so when I read the other reviews saying that these headphones had some heavy bass, naturally, I was interested. Skeptical at first that these headphones would provide the depth and range of what I really wanted, I popped open the box, sat back, and was amazed. I cannot believe what I am hearing. I am in bass heaven. Not to mention the amazing quality of the mids and highs, I do not think I could have gotten a better pair of headphones for 100$. As a matter of fact, I don't think I could have gotten a better pair of headphones for 300$. P.S. I can't hear you, these headphones could cancel out an earthquake.

Comments about Pioneer HDJ-500 DJ HEADPHONES:

When i firsts got these i was amazed at the great sound and bass they reproduced. I use them already in about 3 gigs but on my last one the left side stop working. My firsts reaction was to use the spare cable pioneer provides but that did not work. I was force to use the right ear all night. Basically this never happen to me with any other headphones and i would expect more from pioneer.
