Overview

A professional 2-channel battle mixer designed for use with Serato DJ, the Pioneer DJM-S9 is packed with features to take your DJ game to the next level. The DJM-S9's innovative Magvel Fader Pro can be completely customized with multiple options to suit many different styles. Built-in rubber bumpers provide an incredible response when cutting and the eight performance pads per channel give you instant access to samples, cues and more. And if that's not enough, the DJM-S9 is jammed with built-in effects and assignable buttons that can be mapped to access effects in Serato.

Magvel Pro Crossfader
Pioneer's first 2-channel battle mixer for Serato DJ features the fully-customizable Magvel Pro crossfader for outstanding response, durability and smoothness. Dial in its operational load and modify its curve and reverse configuration to suit your DJ style.

Performance Pads
Tactile multi-color performance pads let you tailor the mixer according to your preferences. For dynamic live mixing, 16 multi-color touch pads give access to hot cue, Roll, slice, loop and more. Their optimized shape and seat switch connections provide great accuracy and response, while the EL display instantly shows which mode is in play. In Serato DJ you can map other functions to the pads and allocate specific colors for an even stronger visual cue.

Customizable FX Buttons
Six customizable buttons on each side of the mixer, and two in the middle, trigger effects directly on your hardware. Fire up six dedicated beat effects on the left banks, or replace them with other popular on-board effects. On the right, you can map your favourite Serato DJ effects and their parameters. The OEL display puts the effect types and beat settings at your fingertips.

Filter FX
A high/low pass filter on each channel lets you manipulate effect by simply rotating the knob. With Serato DJ you can switch to other filter effects like dub echo, noise and pitch.

Quality Sound
The DJM-S9 inherits its high-quality audio circuitry from Pioneer's flagship 4-channel digital mixer, the DJM-2000NXS. The power inlet is designed to reduce resistance and deliver the stable sound you need in loud club environments.

Two Built-in Soundcards
Two USB soundcards make this the ultimate plug-and-play Serato DJ mixer. Play back-to-back with other DJs seamlessly using the input switcher on top to switch between all four Serato DJ decks. And if you prefer to play with CDJs or turntables, you can easily do so thanks to DVS support.

Style Levers
The mixer has two large style levers that allow you to swiftly turn effects on and off. Give more dynamics to your sets by triggering effects briefly, locking them on, or exiting arrangements quickly.

I received the S9 a week ago, upgraded from the Pioneer DJM-400 which i used for the past 9 yrs, always been quite impressed with the quality pioneer has been able to deliver in mixers. So far the knob and fader layout is good, I've noticed the filter knob is placed next to all the EQ efx and I've used it at my last show which was the 1st night I took the S9 for a run. While blending beats I noticed the knob at times wasn't placed back the off position and without a marker light to highlight its still in use was a bit of a getting use to. Other than that the Magvel crossfader feels great! You can feel the built-in bumpers recoil the fader back when I scratch, definitely love the sampler volume knob and the largerly lite efx kill switches... I can go on all day! Extremely happy w/ my new mixer, I also immediately ordered a case for it, gotta protect my new investment and I look forward to another 8-10yrs of good use and mixing from my S9!

I am assuming this is the biggest selling point between the Rane 62 costing two grand and this mixer selling at 1700.00 is the fact that the way it is designed it can not capture the mic when recording a session unlike the Rane 62 everything is captured in the recording with in Serato DJ .....which limits what you can record when performing live...you will need an extra device to capture ALL audio and not just the songs playing on the Serato virtual decks. If you are just a scratch DJ in the bedroom this is a good mixer..but for the working dj that record mixtapes or live mixes while in the club you will be disappointed be prepared to bring an extra recording device do yourself a favor and get the 62...if the 62 had the same pad layout as the Pioneer S9 the S9 would be in trouble....I do love the performance pad layout.

Comments about Pioneer DJM-S9 2-Channel Battle Mixer with Performance Pads:

The DJM S9 definitely lives up to the hype. Plenty of features to expand your creativity with your sets. Coming from a Rane mixer, the build quality is slightly less than a Rane. However, the lack of metal in the mixer is definitely noticed with its lightweight design.

Comments about Pioneer DJM-S9 2-Channel Battle Mixer with Performance Pads:

This is easily the best mixer I've ever used. The fader is perfect, the sound quality is almost TOO good, (what I mean by that is, if you have MP3's at lower bitrates, be prepared to grab higher ones) & the versatility is unmatched. The ease of use with every feature for the most part is also unmatched. The learning curve is actually not that bad considering everything is pretty new.
About the only bad things I can come up with would be user error: being drunk at a gig & attempting to push certain buttons like the "shift" button *which honestly should be backlit* & the fact that the mixer ins't the industry standard yet. Having this mixer is a pleasure & not being able to use it at every gig is sad. You'll find that you're going to spoil yourself at home then get to a gig & have to 'settle' for an 800 or a 57. First world problems. Either way, magnificent piece of tech & I can't wait until more clubs have it.

Comments about Pioneer DJM-S9 2-Channel Battle Mixer with Performance Pads:

I recent purchased the Pioneer DJM S9 and played around with it for about a month now....and what I come to realize all the reviews no matter where the person maybe from are from turntable hobbiest who mainly do alot of scratch routines...for this purpose the mixer is outstanding.....for a working club DJ and Broadcast DJ's I found the one thing that puts the Rane 62 back above this mixer and it is the ability that the Rane 62 can do that the Pioneer DJM S9 can not do is while recording your show if you talk on the mic everything you do is captured in the Serato DJ software the mix as well as MC'ing on the mic together....the Pioneer S9 can not ...the only thing recorded in Serato DJ while using the Pioneer S9 is either the audio mix itself or video mix....which makes this mixer no different then a DJ Midi Controller with a beefed up crossfader....if there is no solution to fix this problem it seems I may have to bring it back and trade it in for the Rane 62

Using this mixer for mobile DJ. Definitely a great performance battle mixer. Great for DJ's who love to use vinyl and digital. Still can't archive vinyl using Serato DJ. Hopefully they will get a patch for that. Waited along time for a product like this.
