Overview

The DDJ-SX is an all-in-one performance controller, with a tactile approach to mixing digital music. This hands-on DJ controller features 2 CDJ-type jog wheels with LCD displays, 16 touch-responsive pads for triggering samples, and an integrated 4-channel mixer with 2 mic inputs, XLR master out, TRS booth out, and a built-in 24-bit soundcard. The DDJ-SX is also completely mapped for control of the included Serato DJ software.

FREE DOWNLOAD OF SERATO DJ
In addition to 4-deck and sampler functions, the latest œSerato DJDJ software from Serato also comes with œDUAL DECK CONTROL, œSLIP MODE, and FX powered by iZotope to arrange tracks in a wide variety of styles.

Dual-Deck Control
Two tracks played by two decks can be controlled at the same time so that you can perform scratching or set and recall hot cues on the bothtracks as if they were performed on a single track.

Slip Mode
DJing function that allows tracks to continue playing in the background while other tracks are looped, scratched or hot cued, without affecting the original track.

New FX powered by iZotope
High quality FX newly developed by iZotope. With the new effects, DJ can apply more creative and more unique arrangement to the music.

LAYOUT EXCLUSIVELY DESIGNED FOR SERATO DJ
DDJ-SX with full of features of œSerato DJ in its exclusively designed layout delivers intuitive and fun DJing. All buttons and knobs of the controller are programmed to the applicable software functions by default so that you can enjoy DJing only by connecting this unit to a computer.

Performance Pads
Large, rubber œPERFORMANCE PADS on the front of the DDJ-SX are assigned to four functions: hot cue, roll, slicer, and sampler. Tracks can be arranged with a dynamic performance such as tapping and drum rolls, and the volume can be adjusted depending on how strong the pad is tapped. Each Pad has blue illumination built in for the DJ to immediately see the CUE and effect status.

4-Channel Mixer
The DDJ-SX comes with a œ4-CHANNEL MIXER that allows each track played from four decks to be controlled individually. These four tracks can be mixed in a variety of ways for more unique DJing. A master level meter at the center of the mixer and channel level meters on the control interface of each channel allow DJs to instantly identify the sound level of each channel. The mixer can be used with the external input terminal for use as a standalone DJ mixer.

Big Jog
The DDJ-SX has the industry' shortest control latency, which is the time between touching the jog and sending the signal to the software. The resistance of the knob has been fine-tuned so that œBIG JOG can be controlled exactly as you intend to. The DDJ-SX also features an œON JOG DISPLAY at the center of the jog showing the playback status and position of the current track. This gives the DJ a greater degree of accuracy when scratching tracks.

WIDE RANGE OF I/O CONNECTIONS
The DDJ-SX comes with four individual input terminals that can be connected to external devices such as CD players or analog turn tables. Two individual microphone input terminals, two master output terminals (XLR terminal — 1, RCA terminal — 1), and one booth out terminal provide the DDJ-SX with connectivity in countless scenarios.

I got tired of carrying CDJ's and a mixer (pair of CDJ's 1000MK2,DJM-700, Rane SL2, pair of dicers)and setting them up for a gig, I pulled a plug on a DJ controller. After playing around with a Numark NS7, Numark NS6, and Pioneer DDJ-S1, I settled on Pioneer DDJ-SX. This is the best controller on the market hands down. Quality build(metal construction), knobs feel so good and are very responsive, and finally the feature I was waiting for, the pads which operate Cue points, slicer and sampler. Sound is much, much better compared to Numark controllers,it comes with Serato DJ software which in my opinion 10 times better than ITCH and very similar to Scratch Live. I've read a forum on Serato.com and some people complained about a Mic sound. I use corded Sennheiser e815s, and the sound is perfect. Overall it is a great product for mobile DJ with so many features. Good job Pioneer.

I have been djing professionally for 16 years, every single weekend in a nightclub. I am by no measure a rookie. I have used every pro piece of dj gear that you can imagine. Pioneer nailed the features 100% on this piece of gear. I love every feature on this piece except one HUGE blunder on Pioneer's part, the mic section and the horrible way the mic inputs are implemented. First, there is no dedicated mic section. You have to use one (or two if you use two mics) of your 4 channels which takes away one or two of your four "decks." Secondly, if the volume of the microphone even gets close to competing with the music volume, it is so terribly distorted that it's embarrassing. I used this piece for a week at home to get familiar with it before I worked with it in public. I never in a million years thought to try out the mic, and then in front of 800 people it happened... maybe the most unprofessional incident of my long career. Turned up the mic for the first time and the most terrible and rookie sounding distorted voice comes out... Over the next day I tried multiple settings with lowering the preamp and boosting the channel fader, increasing the preamp and cutting the fader, boosting the master and decreasing the master, talking softer... everything that one would normally do while troubleshooting a preamp/microphone problem. Pioneer reps in the form have basically tried to make this look like rookies making mistakes by not knowing how gear works. In a Steve Jobs/"You're holding it the wrong way" type of fashion. I tour with a a very famous rock band in the summer as a FOH engineer and I know how to use mics/preamps/etc. So this is no rookie mistake, this thing is junk. This made me return my unit and hope that Pioneer fixes this problem in the new batch. I understand that $1000 for a piece of Pioneer gear is not very expensive, but in reality, $1000 is still expensive in the real world and I expect quality. Now that my rant about the mic situation is over, let me expand on the things I do like. -The overall feel of this piece is better than anything Pioneer has ever manufactured. The jog wheels are smaller than CDJ2000, probably 6 inches in diameter. They are super silky and looks to be made from aluminum. I suspect that the Numark NS7 really pushed Pioneer to step their game up in this area. Cutting and scratching with these is great, very quick and silky. -The 8 multi-function pads on each deck are great. I can finally do away with my Dicers. -The loop section is laid out great with easy access to everything. - The faders are ok. They still have that cheap Pioneer fader feel but they are quick and precise. - Needle search works as expected. - 4 decks is a great addition with dual deck control working as expected - The profile design is nice. Not bulky at all, maybe 2 inches tall. Very streamlined. Another thing I'm on the fence about is the front panel where you adjust headphone volume, cross fader curve, etc. The knobs that depress in to keep from being snapped off are kind of useless. They do not tuck in flush. My thought is, if the original idea is to tuck these in, they should at least be flush with the outside of the unit to get them away from danger. These knobs and the input select switches feel very cheap and I suspect these will be good sellers for Pioneer's parts department. Overall, I thought this piece was well thought out and I loved it but for pro customers, this mic problem can not go untouched. If Pioneer could work this distortion problem out, I would go back and buy another one. I could deal with the lack of dedicated mic section. Everything else is bearable.

Microphone distortion

By JOE CASILLAS

from West Covina, California

Comments about Pioneer DDJ-SX DJ Controller:

Although this unit performs beyond my expectation. I have to give it a low rating for the following reason. I am a club and wedding DJ and have to make announcements on the microphone. Whenever I use it or anyone else it sound distorted. I've tried both wireless and wired mics (Shure SM57) and different XLR and 1/4 inch cables and it did not help. I did some research and found out that this is a known problem with the first batch of units and pioneer has fixed this with the next batch. I therefore need to arrange bring the unit back to you for replacement. Please let me know how to proceed. If and when I receive another unit and the problem has been rectified I will change my rating. Hope to hear from you soon.

Love this controller!!!

By scott kaiser

from Jacksonville, FL

Comments about Pioneer DDJ-SX DJ Controller:

I absolutely love this controller. I have been holding out for a controller like this for a long time. This is the first controller that really feels like you are playing on standard CDJ's even though you are not. Everything feels tight and professional. The knobs don't feel cheap or flimsy as if they are going to break. It's definitely a durable controller. I have two gripes although not huge they are definitely something a DJ should think about. The first is the jog wheels. While great, I hate that you can't really back spin on them. If you try, you will only get about 1 to 2 revolutions before the track will start to return to normal. Not a deal breaker but a bummer if you're a DJ who likes to throw a back spin in to the mix every now and then. My second gripe is updating the firmware. There is already a firmware update out that is supposed to help make the touch sensitivity a little more responsive however the software to update the firmware only works on PC. There is no mac firmware update available right now which is kind of another bummer but again not a deal breaker. Overall it's a great controller with tons of options to help you get creative in the mix.

So Impressive

By Alrick McLeod

Comments about Pioneer DDJ-SX DJ Controller:

After a couple weeks of at home and outside usage, I am very contented with this pioneer product. It is well suited for the serato dj software and has so many wonderful features that can be mastered to suffuse musical bliss. I enjoy jog wheels and the pads are awesome. From my experimentation there were no issues with any microphone. I also got a great deal from guitar center the same day the controller was released by pioneer, so add five more stars to that.

Outstanding

By David Mendez

Comments about Pioneer DDJ-SX DJ Controller:

If anyone has Mic issues it's their own fault. I don't have any mic issues at all. If you are having mic issues they have some great advice on specific mics that work perfectly and also have workarounds if you're using an incompatible microphone. Great service from guitar center; I received my unit less than a week after I ordered it (I guess my timing was great) This controller has the best features from smooth jog wheels like on the NS6 to the pads on twitch which Pioneers pads are leaps and bounds bigger and better in quality and feel. The controller is perfectly laid out; I have no complaints; VU metering for each channel are great. The Pitch sliders though are a bit too loose for my liking; I like them tighter but they are spot on when mixing without syncing. The quality of the controller is on par with the NS6/NS7, Awesome metal chassis. This is the premiere DJ controller. Excellent.

Grounding issues

By DEREK MOELLINGER

from Las vegas, nv

Comments about Pioneer DDJ-SX DJ Controller:

I continue to have problems with this unit. I searched many forums and it seems many people are having similar issues. The unit doesn't ground. If I pick it up off the table it works well. If it is sitting on the table the unit doesn't work. Everything distorts and the visual display on Serato DJ stops. Again, from reading through the forums this is not a problem isolated to just me. I will return the unit in the hopes some faulty units were produced and a newer one will work well. The unit is amazing when it does work, but for now I would never trust this in a live gig.

Best DJ Controller on the market...

By Eber Hwang

from San Jose, CA

Comments about Pioneer DDJ-SX DJ Controller:

I have been DJing on 1200's for the past 13 yrs now and using Serato. Very skeptical about moving to DJ controllers since I really did not want to pay the $$ for CDJ's. I have mixed on my friends NS7 for my first controller experience on Serato Itch...and it was not bad at all. Finally I realized just how awesome the transition from tables to controller would be...minus the loss of vinyl feel. But I was already accustomed to hot cues so I was ready to adapt. Got the DDJ-SX last week and was still very much on the fence after spending $. After the first hour I was sold. The build quality, feel of the jog wheel was amazing, Serato DJ had the feel and look of Searto and apparently the best features of Traktor (unfortunately the Snyc feature as well), the effects sounded great, and the overall move a controller was beyond my expectations. Shortly after I played on another friends S4...and I was very dissappointed. It had totally met my expectation of just about 90% of the controllers out there looking and feeling like plastic toy boxes. Sound quality was very poor. Until I start DJing weddings I guess that Mic input would be my only gripe...but I mix at home, few club gigs, and I make trance, and EDM mixes. I am extremely happy and other than the feel of the Numark NS7 I would not even think about using another controller that is out on the market. Very professional and solid, high quality build. Feels just like a DJM mixer and CDJ mashed into one awesome piece of hardware. **If i were a Hip-Hop DJ I would never use a controller...ever. Keep the 1200's alive for the art of turntablism

best controller and software out there

By DAVID ZIEMBA

from Orlando, FL

Comments about Pioneer DDJ-SX DJ Controller:

I was all set to buy the ddj-s1 and then I saw the Nexus line of products coming out and the hint of a new controller. I am glad I waited. This controller offers the best in performance for a mix dj combined with the performance features and effects with a brand new performance style control surface suitable for remixing n the fly.

Outstanding

By David Mendez

from Brooklyn NY

Comments about Pioneer DDJ-SX DJ Controller:

Coming from the Numark NS6 I'm beyond impressed. This controller is well built, well laid out. The pitch control on the left side doesn't bother me one bit; I DJ with Technics 1200's and the pitch slider was fixed, that's that. The controller is well built. Upon first turning it on your greeted with a friendly light up of all controls. Pitch control is spot on precise, jog wheels are solid the pads are high quality and velocity sensitive. The sound quality of the mixer is 10 out of 10 (hardware and software) I've owned the unit since 11/17/12 and played out live in excess of 4 hours twice a week and at home on an almost daily basis, nothing bad to report; it's rock solid and reliable. The look and feel of this unit is just amazing. I'm not a fan of the small ttoy controllers like the Vestax VCI, Traktor S4 controllers etc... The top metal chassis is gorgeous, sleek, solid. Line faders are just right; 10 out of 10 for quality and build. My one gripe (no fader start for the cross fader)

Great Board!

By Daniel Muthler

from State College, PA

Comments about Pioneer DDJ-SX DJ Controller:

I was originally torn between getting this, and the NS7FX, and ultimately, the selling point on this was the 16 force-sensitive soft pads on the bottom. Having gotten it and messed around with it quite a bit, I have to say this is one amazing controller. The faders wobble a bit on the metal pins, but that's mainly because they're replaceable, which in and of itself is a good thing. It's barely noticeable though. Love the detent on the pitch fader at the midpoint, and how smoothly it moves. Not sure how I feel about the FX section yet, I'm not as impressed as I was by other systems, but it's fairly decent. Crossfader adjustment right on the front makes it really easy to change up your CF for various DJ-ing styles, and this thing has a wide variety of ports on the back! If you're looking for a great controller, this is a good one to go with.

And now it's time to DJ

By Leroy Dingle

from Moncks Corner/Charleston, SC

Comments about Pioneer DDJ-SX DJ Controller:

I am a beat maker and I am getting in to DJ'ing. The DDJ-SX really compliments my skill set. This is a well made piece of equipment! The buttons and knobs have a great feel. With the Serato software this is creates an amazing performance. The mic is located in the back of the unit. I understand why... it just make me have to lean over to us my podium mic. Other than that I recommend the DDJ-SX. LJBoogie!

Nice piece of equipment

By BENTON GRAHAM

from Trenton, NJ

Comments about Pioneer DDJ-SX DJ Controller:

The initial setup was kind of weird because it was very redundant. Pioneer should give one set of quick and clear set up instructions. Also you have to have windows 7 for this unit to work. Once you get it set up though it is a beast. Its ease of use and durability is outstanding. The pads and buttons are easy to figure out. Plug ins are easy to understand and use without a lot of reading. This is my first controller and within a week of setup I have put my 1200's and CD mixers away...probably won't need to use them at least for now anyway. I would recommend this thing for anyone novice to veteran. It is the bomb and the price is right too. Mix on!!
