  • Pioneer MEP-7000 versus Denon HD2500

As reviewed by Mike H. on 1/11/2010

When I first saw the price tag on this bad boy comparing to the Denon HD-2500 I thought no way. I currently own 5 of the HD2500's but after giving in, I purchased the MEP just to compare. The Denons were good, but MEP-7000 was even better. The problem with the Denon HD2500 when in MIDI mode, if your computer goes down, you have to restart the unit to jump to CD mode or just trying reboot your computer system really fast and prey that it works upon program restart. Lots dead air! But with the Pioneer MEP-7000 you have multiple sources (CD, USB) for backups. The cool part is at the push of a button you won't have to wait 20-60 for a system reboot, its instant. Also the color display is amazing and easy navigation on the MEP. They also include some cool effects to enhance your show. The jog wheels react and respond the same if not better then my Pioneer CDJ-1000's and the layout of the head unit is the same as the 1000's. Of course the CDJ1000 are amazing in their own way. If you are going to use the units in stand alone mode with software, both work great. However, it take me over 25 minutes to scan my drive with the Denon's Music Manager software, the same drive will only take me under 5 minutes to create a directory with the Pioneer MEP. If your on a gig and your file directory on your external hard drive somehow get corrupted (meaning you cant access your music, this has happen to me with our Denon systems). You are in big trouble. No problems with the MEP. You can switch over your utility setting to folder view (normal mode) and still have access to all your music folders on your external hard drive without having to create a database music directory file to get through your gig. Oh yeah, you can also play CD+G Karaoke discs and audio dvd mp3 discs. Don't get me wrong both are great products. But being a professional in the industry, I will have to side with Pioneer on this one. So if you are a serious mobile DJ I would highly recommend the Pioneer MEP-7000! Remember never compare price to quality!

  • Pioneer MEP-7000

As reviewed by Vince on 4/21/2009

This unit is worth every penny! Having the ability to use it with all formats makes it a top dual deck unit! Used it twice over the weekend with Serato and it worked out flawlessly. Also noticed the enhancement of the sound quality coming out of the speakers compared to my old dual deck cd player. This is a must for Mobile DJs wanting portability and Club/Bars that lack space.

  • Must have for mobile DJs

As reviewed by Kirk W on 10/25/2010

I purchased one of theses about 2 months ago and found this to be a great addition to my set up. I would have preferred the CDJ-2000's but space & cost are an issue for mobile shows. Most of the qualities you would find in the 1000's & 2000's are also found here. Compatibility with Traktor or Sarato is seamless. The sound quality is outstanding! Ease of use, flexibility, and portability make this the perfect solution for any mobile, small club, or addition to a larger club. The build of the unit is very solid and it shows in the feel of the controls and also (unfortunately) the weight of the unit coming in at just over 17 pounds out of the box. There have been several reports of crashes in various blogs most likely due to over-heating, but I have not encountered this issue. I am guessing that the units were installed in cabinets with little to no ventilation. Word to the wise, put a fan in your rack to keep things cool. The firmware & software updates were installed prior to operation of the unit so any idiosyncrasies of prior versions were just that. I would like to see the back-spin distance increased but it's not a major issue. I have yet to try using both the MEP-7000 and Kontrol X1 at the same time to manipulate Traktor but I am sure with just a few mapping adjustments all will speak nicely to each other.
