Availability:

4-Channel controller for Serato DJ with Performance Pads and Big Jog.

The DDJ-SX is an all-in-one performance controller, with a tactile approach to mixing digital music. This hands-on DJ controller features 2 CDJ-type jog wheels with LCD displays, 16 touch-responsive pads for triggering samples, and an integrated 4-channel mixer with 2 mic inputs, XLR master out, TRS booth out, and a built-in 24-bit soundcard. The DDJ-SX is also completely mapped for control of the included Serato DJ software.

FREE DOWNLOAD OF SERATO DJ
In addition to 4-deck and sampler functions, the latest “Serato DJ”DJ software from Serato also comes with “DUAL DECK CONTROL”, “SLIP MODE”, and FX powered by iZotope to arrange tracks in a wide variety of styles.

Dual-Deck Control
Two tracks played by two decks can be controlled at the same time so that you can perform scratching or set and recall hot cues on the both tracks as if they were performed on a single track.

Slip Mode
DJing function that allows tracks to continue playing in the background while other tracks are looped, scratched or hot cued, without affecting the original track.

New FX powered by iZotope
High quality FX newly developed by iZotope. With the new effects, DJ can apply more creative and more unique arrangement to the music.

LAYOUT EXCLUSIVELY DESIGNED FOR SERATO DJ
DDJ-SX with full of features of “Serato DJ” in its exclusively designed layout delivers intuitive and fun DJing. All buttons and knobs of the controller are programmed to the applicable software functions by default so that you can enjoy DJing only by connecting this unit to a computer.

Performance Pads
Large, rubber “PERFORMANCE PADS” on the front of the DDJ-SX are assigned to four functions: hot cue, roll, slicer, and sampler. Tracks can be arranged with a dynamic performance such as tapping and drum rolls, and the volume can be adjusted depending on how strong the pad is tapped. Each Pad has blue illumination built in for the DJ to immediately see the CUE and effect status.

4-Channel Mixer
The DDJ-SX comes with a “4-CHANNEL MIXER” that allows each track played from four decks to be controlled individually. These four tracks can be mixed in a variety of ways for more unique DJing. A master level meter at the center of the mixer and channel level meters on the control interface of each channel allow DJs to instantly identify the sound level of each channel. The mixer can be used with the external input terminal for use as a standalone DJ mixer.

Big Jog
The DDJ-SX has the industry’s shortest control latency, which is the time between touching the jog and sending the signal to the software. The resistance of the knob has been fine-tuned so that “BIG JOG” can be controlled exactly as you intend to. The DDJ-SX also features an “ON JOG DISPLAY” at the center of the jog showing the playback status and position of the current track. This gives the DJ a greater degree of accuracy when scratching tracks.

WIDE RANGE OF I/O CONNECTIONS
The DDJ-SX comes with four individual input terminals that can be connected to external devices such as CD players or analog turn tables. Two individual microphone input terminals, two master output terminals (XLR terminal × 1, RCA terminal × 1), and one booth out terminal provide the DDJ-SX with connectivity in countless scenarios.

I got tired of carrying CDJ's and a mixer (pair of CDJ's 1000MK2,DJM-700, Rane SL2, pair of dicers)and setting them up for a gig, I pulled a plug on a DJ controller. After playing around with a Numark NS7, Numark NS6, and Pioneer DDJ-S1, I settled on Pioneer DDJ-SX. This is the best controller on the market hands down. Quality build(metal construction), knobs feel so good and are very responsive, and finally the feature I was waiting for, the pads which operate Cue points, slicer and sampler. Sound is much, much better compared to Numark controllers,it comes with Serato DJ software which in my opinion 10 times better than ITCH and very similar to Scratch Live. I've read a forum on Serato.com and some people complained about a Mic sound. I use corded Sennheiser e815s, and the sound is perfect. Overall it is a great product for mobile DJ with so many features. Good job Pioneer.

  • Be aware: Terribly distorted mic , lack of dedicated mic section-all other features are great

As reviewed by Keith Hill on 11/26/2012

I have been djing professionally for 16 years, every single weekend in a nightclub. I am by no measure a rookie. I have used every pro piece of dj gear that you can imagine. Pioneer nailed the features 100% on this piece of gear. I love every feature on this piece except one HUGE blunder on Pioneer's part, the mic section and the horrible way the mic inputs are implemented. First, there is no dedicated mic section. You have to use one (or two if you use two mics) of your 4 channels which takes away one or two of your four "decks." Secondly, if the volume of the microphone even gets close to competing with the music volume, it is so terribly distorted that it's embarrassing. I used this piece for a week at home to get familiar with it before I worked with it in public. I never in a million years thought to try out the mic, and then in front of 800 people it happened... maybe the most unprofessional incident of my long career. Turned up the mic for the first time and the most terrible and rookie sounding distorted voice comes out... Over the next day I tried multiple settings with lowering the preamp and boosting the channel fader, increasing the preamp and cutting the fader, boosting the master and decreasing the master, talking softer... everything that one would normally do while troubleshooting a preamp/microphone problem. Pioneer reps in the form have basically tried to make this look like rookies making mistakes by not knowing how gear works. In a Steve Jobs/"You're holding it the wrong way" type of fashion. I tour with a a very famous rock band in the summer as a FOH engineer and I know how to use mics/preamps/etc. So this is no rookie mistake, this thing is junk. This made me return my unit and hope that Pioneer fixes this problem in the new batch. I understand that $1000 for a piece of Pioneer gear is not very expensive, but in reality, $1000 is still expensive in the real world and I expect quality. Now that my rant about the mic situation is over, let me expand on the things I do like. -The overall feel of this piece is better than anything Pioneer has ever manufactured. The jog wheels are smaller than CDJ2000, probably 6 inches in diameter. They are super silky and looks to be made from aluminum. I suspect that the Numark NS7 really pushed Pioneer to step their game up in this area. Cutting and scratching with these is great, very quick and silky. -The 8 multi-function pads on each deck are great. I can finally do away with my Dicers. -The loop section is laid out great with easy access to everything. - The faders are ok. They still have that cheap Pioneer fader feel but they are quick and precise. - Needle search works as expected. - 4 decks is a great addition with dual deck control working as expected - The profile design is nice. Not bulky at all, maybe 2 inches tall. Very streamlined. Another thing I'm on the fence about is the front panel where you adjust headphone volume, cross fader curve, etc. The knobs that depress in to keep from being snapped off are kind of useless. They do not tuck in flush. My thought is, if the original idea is to tuck these in, they should at least be flush with the outside of the unit to get them away from danger. These knobs and the input select switches feel very cheap and I suspect these will be good sellers for Pioneer's parts department. Overall, I thought this piece was well thought out and I loved it but for pro customers, this mic problem can not go untouched. If Pioneer could work this distortion problem out, I would go back and buy another one. I could deal with the lack of dedicated mic section. Everything else is bearable.

  • So Impressive

As reviewed by Alrick McLeod on 11/29/2012

After a couple weeks of at home and outside usage, I am very contented with this pioneer product. It is well suited for the serato dj software and has so many wonderful features that can be mastered to suffuse musical bliss. I enjoy jog wheels and the pads are awesome. From my experimentation there were no issues with any microphone. I also got a great deal from guitar center the same day the controller was released by pioneer, so add five more stars to that.
