This cdj blows the 800 out of the water! The sound quality is amazing, much sharper than previous cdj models. The large browsing screen makes it much easier to view and find tracks. The link feature and usb feature are fascinating and make it very easy to bring a large library where every you go! So far there isn't much to complain about yet. The over all unit just looks and feels better than the older versions. This is truly worth the buy!
I bought 2 of these along with a Rane TTM 57SL. Used the CDJ's with time code discs in Serato and it worked great! Now I have the CDJ's hooked up to Serato with USB cables. The song information appears on the decks and I can control everything without the discs! Great setup. Love them!
I bought my 900's about 9 month's ago because, on paper, they appeared to be an improvement over the 1000's. They went into immediate rotation as working decks, and there were many good times had by all. And Yes, they have Nearly every feature under the sun, but what pioneer forgot to do was build these things to be used by real DJ's. Almost out of the box the power button started sticking. Then on the first Paid gig they went out on, one CD player got stuck in reverse the whole night. It was embarassing, and we had to use a 5 year old dennon pos while serato DJ's figured out a way to use one deck to mix. I fixed the problem with a hardware update at home, but With in a few months' the faders were loosing responsiveness and the play button was getting harder and harder to activate. Then just a few weeks ago, the CD platter came loose on one of the pair while I was playing. Scared the hell outta me, but it popped back in and worked fine. BUT, just a few hours later, the other one developed some type of internal error causing a "skipping" issue that was happening on every CD we tried. It was a disaster. Thankfully a friend had a pair of Rock solid 1000's he'd brought, but it cost me money to rent them. In my opinion, they should have built these things in aluminum chassis like the older !000's were, and used the same platter's and fader's too. It's was really disappointing to see them get sent in for warranty repairs after only 9 months of rotation. The only reason I gave this unit 3 stars is because I can't tell you how many times the CD port and link feature saved the day at a gig... ALL CDJ's should have this feature. Though i never did get the CD players rear USB port to work directly with Serato... Never did try it with Traktor though. Just more headaches really...
